Just purchased a few items and was wandering if anyone else has taken away the fanclutch and installed an electric fan. Here's what I bought, hoping to get a little better gas milage... maybe a lil more power... also wanted to do it for when im out wheelin in the hot summers and the fan clutch just aint enough to keep it cool.

Bump, Has anyone ever did this? I'm scared about sticking a probe through my radiator lol. I couldn't find a write up of one. If you guys can point me in the right direction, I will be forever in your debt.

You will not harm anything by probing the radiator.

The instructions should tell you where to probe and how to wire. More than likely you will probe near the intake side of the radiator since that is where it will be the hottest. All in all it is a pretty simple upgrade.

Post updates on your install if you could, I am interested in finding out if removing the fan clutch and fan helped out with the power of the engine.

Will do, I just hope the 16" inch fan will fit. I'm beginning to wander if it's to big.

Wow man Thanks, you pretty much lifted a burden off my shoulder!! I feel alot better hopefully I can tackle it this weekend and get a post up!! I just hope that I don't screw anything up lol (I am very hard on myself and I always expect the worst.) I spent like 10 minutes looking for the post and then I finally scrolled down and seen were you posted the topic lol :ybrick:

Fun fact I haven't turned my fan on since I did this I've drove with it up to 45 outside and temp never got above half way fan seams only usefully in hot conditions lol

Yea with 16 degree weather when I install it i doubt it'll ever kick on haha

Ok so I got everything in the mail today, I can't work on it since the shop is only opened on weekends. Ok I got a question I seen where you said wire it to the ignition. Where is the Ignition on the 2nd gen 4Runners. I can read the schematics and I got everything else down I just want to know where I'll need to splice into that or what not, so it turns on when I have the truck on. Also it says that I need to use the green wire for my fan clutch on my a/c and I have no idea were thats at. So should I just use a toggle switch like you did? Also I'll probably take the little fan in front of my radiator off that came from the factory, or should I leave it on, so that way I have a pusher and puller lol

lol so i just looked at what you bought!
since your using a temp regulated on you dont really need to switch it mines just active
also WOW on that price not trying to sound bad i paid like 30 bucks for my fan

Well I've always heard you get what you pay far, so I didnt want to buy the cheapest fan. Also I wanted to buy a fan with some good reviews. Another thing was, I wanted a fan that would fit with the most coverage on the core.. the 165 was 250 bux, I didn't wanna go that deep. So this looked like the second best. I've been reading alot and I'll run the hot wire into the dash and look for a yellow wire to tap in to.

Ok so there is my schematic of how it will be hooked up, I guess since I don't know where the Ignition switch is to tap into, the cigerette lighter will work for me i guess

1.) Ok so first off you'll need to take off the fan clutch (4 bolts) then the fan shroud which should be 4, mine only had 3 lol. Also I broke my fan shroud on geting it out. I'll buy or make me a new one in the near future.

2. Now when u put the bolts back on make sure you have some washers handy because if not you won't be able to tighten it down all the way and have wobble and you get the picture, lol

3.) The place I chose to put the relay was right beside the battery which already had a hole drilled in it. I put the relay and fan ground beneath it. A little different from my schematics but it still works.

4.) The ignition fuse is below the hood hatch and is really easy to get to. You'll need to do this for the other part of the thermostat sensor as shown in the schematics.

5.)Installed the fan.

6.) Now if you have A/C, you can either hook up into the A/C fan clutch or have your on toggle switch. I used a toggle switch because I didn't want to mess with my A/C.My A/C already has a fan in front of my radiator for when I turn on the A/C.

Sounds good to me, is it plastic or metal? The one I removed was plastic and I prefer a metal one. But having one is better than nothing because it can mean the difference of staying cool or over heating. I figured that out on my old isuzu Trooper haha.
