I spent about $35, less the cost of a replacement steering wheel control circuit board that I fried.
Best 'cheap' mod for the satisfaction and pride that you get out of it!

Not bad at all. I didn't know exactly what the price of individual LEDs were.

Hey darkie, not to get slightly off topic but do you or anyone else out there know if there is a way around the dimming of the HVAC led's as well as every other switch/button when the headlights are used during the day ? I'd love to switch out my entire speedo panel of course (someone out there should start a send us your board and we'll do it for you business) but that takes a steady hand and being very good at soldering on such a tight/closely placed circuit board. I could live with and prob will the arrows being orange when I switch out the HVAC and every other switch/button/4WD indicator lights when I replace 'em with blue, but surely there must be a way to disconnect/reroute whatever gets tripped when one must use the headlights during the day, I mean it's ridiculous that the only thing that lights up on the speedo panel is the PRD321 and only one of those at that unless the headlights are on which automatically dims the switch/button/selector lights. Aren't supposed to drive with just the parking lights on and in a rural area it's just common sense to have 'em on during the day.
So if you or anyone out there knows if this is possible or can suggest where I might go to try and track this down that would be great, it's bad enough that they put such low lit led's in to begin with, but to make everything go dim just to even be able to see/read the speedo panel I'll never understand.

I haven't had a chance to look at this lately but my non-fact based assumption is that it is related to the parking light circuit which i believe is located in the steering stalk. When you click the parking lights on through the stalk controls, 3 displays dim - Deck, Cluster and HVAC.
During my aftermarket deck install, I noticed there is a illumination wire that when it receives a signal that the parking lights are on, my deck dims.
My theory is that if you disable the circuit sending a signal across all interior lighting you will be able to trick each item into thinking that the parking lights are still off.
None of this has been tested mind you, but at least it's a place to start.

One other question I had regarding the HVAC controls. How did you get them to all light up like that? Mine don't light up like that. Only a couple of the lights on the knobs light up.

Thank you! I'll post details on the ambient lighting install when I'm on my computer after I get out of work tonight.
For the HVAC lights, I just swapped in NEO-3 and NEO-5 LEDs from LED Lights, Bulbs & Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS. Took a little bit of filing the circuit board to make em fit, but no real issues!

So u change out the resistors on the neo4 hp to make it shine brighter behind the display? I need a few of those, but my hands are not steady to do that type of percision solder.

No soldering required! the NEO-3 and NEO-5's work perfectly out of the package. Its worth the money!

Ok, SO!
I got two of these: WFLS series Flexible Light Strips
I installed them under the dash. I routed the wiring through the center console (removing the HVAC cluster to hide the wiring). Then I just used two connectors to connect it to the + and - of the 12V cigarette lighter.
Really easy to do. Any questions, DM me and I'll give you a call. I have A.D.D. and it makes typing long thoughts a hassle... ANYWAY. That is a VERY basic how-to. Sorry for my lacking info

I don't think anyone has converted the stock navi yet, however, you can reference the LED placements from djrocketodd

Hey Alex, thanks for the call yesterday discussing your build of this mod. It was refreshing to talk to such a young guy who seems very mature for his age. :thumb3:
One thing I forgot to ask you last night, (or maybe you mentioned it, but I don't remember - thats what happens when you become an old fart) , what is the breakdown of blue leds and white leds for the gauge clauster mod you did? I really like the blue and white effect you achieved. It makes it look more factory like.
Second question, no soldering is required anywhere other than the buttons for DAC, 4WD, power window and steering volume and radio station controls?

I get the very mature for a 17 year old thing a lot, maybe that accounts for some of my forgetfulness too? Haha. I enjoyed helping you out, and look forward to helping you later on!
Now for your first question; I bought about 25 blue and 15 white PLCC-2 LEDs. This is more than you need, but mistakes and defects happen!
For your second question; you can actually buy completed bulbs for the DAC, 4WD, Diff lock, etc. from superbright, but I prefer Darkie's quality for those switch bulbs. His work better. You can get away with only having to solder just the gauges, steering wheel controls, and window switch. You don't necessarily need to make your own LED bulbs Darkie-style.
