Need opinion on colors........Its dip time!

Why do want to do this in the first place? I've physically seen tons of cars in flat colours and none have ever looked better than paint, IMO. I like the driving experience because there is less glare off the hood, which can be accomplished with a wrap, but the whole enchilada? You've got balls, I'll give you that.

My paint is destroyed. I take my rig out to the trails maybe 2-3 times a month and its not like anything people have on the west coast. Missouri trails are very tight, very woody, I've got some very very deep pinstriping all over my 4runner. I don't have the money to pay for a wrap, I'd rather spend that 3grand for a supercharger. I like changing things up, if it looks like crap, no biggie, I can peel it off.

Also, one thing I have noticed is I left a good bit of mud on them through a good part this past winter, and it made getting the mud of a pain in the arse. I really had to scrub them to get it out of the pores in the dip.

Other then that it's been awesome. The only thing I've had phase the dip was the machine that pulls the tire off the rim. They left the broke tpms inside the tire when they replaced it and it made a god awful noise.

I decided on doing this too. Main reason is anytime I go off the pavement I get some AZ pinstripes. I have decided on going with the matte clear spray over mag gray with blaze blue touches. I have been watching the videos on dipyourcar.com and I think using about 12 cans with the wide tip will get the job done.

But on your color choices I would pick battleship gray.

I was thinking about doing a matte clear on mine this spring. Not sure if you have, but check out dipyourcar.com and check them out on FB. There are tons of ideas on there.

But color choice for me would be green, with flat white a close second. But if you put that flat blue on the GTR as one of your choices that would get my vote quick.

The owner of the 5th Gen that is matte black actually took the wrap off. Saw him the other day. But he did leave the hood and roof wrapped.

I don't want something permanent like bed liner. I like the idea of plastidip cause if I get bored of one color, I can just spray over the old color with a new one and it'll be extra durable.

Did he say why? I wonder if it peeled off like Blair B's.

He was going back to mostly stock. Even taking his OW kit out and stock size tires back on.

Just make sure you keep the dip warm when you spray it on.. much cleaner spray and smoother coat! Good luck!!

Dude, OD green with the black TE parts would be sweet. So instead of waxing the paint I guess you'd just touch up as needed? I love the idea of this but I'm pretty sure my wife would crap a labrador if I painted the 4runner.

Beware; I have experience wrapping vehicles and most "pro-wrappers" or DIY guys cut the film on the vehicle and in doing so, perforate the paint, exposing metal and allowing rust to happen.

Exactly. Its been done on hundreds of cars, I'm not worried about it.

I painted a large portion of my hood - with the rattlecan no less- and it was smooth as silk. As long as the paint is warm(as others have stated) it goes down without orange peel.

As far as "not getting adhesion on the glossy paint" proves to me that you have never used Plastidip. It will stick perfectly.

I second Jeff's statements. I have used plastidip on several items. The best thing to do though if you have never used it and especially if you are going to go big is to test it on something first. This way you can work on your technique and understand the mechanics and art of spraying effectively. I did an old refrigerator to test it once.

I completely disagree: The AMATEURS cut the paint when trimming vinyl. The PROS, at least down here, do it right and only cut the vinyl. I striped cars and tinted windows every night and weekends to help put me through college. Before we could do a customer car we had to "practice" on old fenders. Put the tape on, make a cut and then pull the tape off to see if we cut the paint. Takes only a few times of doing this to get the knife pressure correct and not cut the paint.
