Oh and i almost rolled my truck for the first time:nono: worst feeling in the world!
I mean i've been in my share of tippy off camber situations before but this one was different, i honestly don't know how i didn't flip! Thank god the rear end came back down, me and my wife both shifted are weight right away( more of of fear and natural reaction lol) but i think that shifted it back down. First time i got her out to wheel to so not the best first impression haha :doh:

That is a bad feeling for sure! I know I've had my "butt pucker" moments and the people I've wheeled with laugh at me because I'll throw my head the opposite way thinking that it'll counteract the weight or something! But it is more of a reaction of fear than it is anything else! Hell, I threw almost my whole upper body out of the window this weekend because of it!

So your truck does just fine without any lockers? I'm looking to equip mine for similar wheeling is why I ask. Lift, tires, and full skids/sliders are on my list as necessities for now. I like all the pics in your build; keep them coming!

There was a moment when i was like WTF and kinda of froze because i couldn't process it fast enough and then when the ass end miraculously came back down i like holy shit:wow2: I just felt bad because my wife was in the truck (for the 1st time) and that hasn't happened to that point before where i thought i was Totally F'd, so of course she was freaked out! And of course i was like i swear that never happened before lol
Haha after the initial shock past that's the first thing i said to these two guys that were next to me and watched the whole thing!
It does pretty good thanks to ATRAC i've kept up and gone thru stuff that i never thought i would have been able to also fooling many others with lockers. It's all about knowing how to use what you have! I've learned how to use Atrac quite well. The same applies to lockers. It's a learning process and learning your rig. A lot of times it's more driver than rig. I have a lot of buddies who have both and probably use their Atrac more than they use their lockers and only use them here and there when needed. All that being said i am planning on adding gears and lockers hopefully this coming year. Because i've also know their awesome in certain situations.
The list of what you have is what where most start,myself included, you'll be good with that for a while. You'll find that these rigs are very capable!

Totally agree about the atrac and lockers.
I see you have an rtt now.:thumb: How did the tent cot work out ? I was looking at those and the oztent that pops up too. I'm still on the fence about what to get. I feel like an rtt might be to heavy during wheeling. I was looking at an arb awning and the awning room tent. Don't know yet. Deffinelty need to go on one of these adventures in the future though for sure.

Yes i do:becky: My boddy hooked me up because it needed a little TLC and he's getting a new one. Nothing major so i cleaned it and patched a couple holes and its good as new! I'm just ordering a new mattress and a anti condensation mat because he didn't have one of those.
The tent cot worked great man ! Super easy and slept great for 5 nights. I got a thermal rest self inflating sleep pad to put in there for a little extra fusion and it worked great. My only complain and it's not really a complaint cause it basically will happen to any tent in that weather. Because it was fairly cold at night probably low 40's the last night it got down to low 30's, i had to use the rainfly so it stayed a little warmer in there but then it didn't breath as well so i ended up with a little bit of condensation in the mornings. No biggie
Yeah i don't know how i feel about wheeling with the RTT on the roof. for just light easy trail riding and exploring it's fine but i wouldn't want it up there doing tougher stuff. I picked up a 1953 Bantam 1/4 ton military trailer a couple months ago that i'm going to build into a expedition trail so i'm going to mount it on top of that. I really want a awning, I'm definitely getting one after this winter! Yes man you guys have to come up to Rausch Creek for one of these events! Or we can try to plan just a long weekend and all go wheel!

Here's a couple short vids of two tippy spots on the J1 Blue trail at Rausch Creek from last weekend.Me in the first one and my buddy in his first time out with his 1st gen that he's starting to build, Doesn't have a lot of flex on it yet, SO i came around the corner and he was teetering there about 5 feet of the ground lol

Those things are beasts! That's a whole other level of wheeling once you build a straight crawler. It's got to be a good feeling though when you can go out and wheel and not have to worry about denting any doors or damaging anything because that's exactly what it was made for to wheel and crawl!
No man not this year, I'll be staying up north in Massachusetts at my mother in laws with the kiddies. I'm probably going to try to make it down sometime in the spring if not definitely summer. Oh by the way I've been looking into the 4x4 Labs DIY bumper kit,especially after I saw @havingfun get his. I'm getting a welder soon and am going to start learning to weld and my buddy and his father in law can help me build it ( they both weld for a living) cause I love your bumper! By doing it that way will take a little more time but will help me save a little extra money for other fun mods haha so I'm good with that.
All in good time bro, it's fun watching your truck take shape and grow over time! Plus you have to remember we're building toyotas not jeeps this shit gets expensive,but that's the price you pay for having a quality rig! For price of a good suspension set up on one of our trucks you could buy a suspension plus front and rear bumper on a jeep. But at least at the end of the long day wheeling we'll still be able to drive home haha JK I wheel with a bunch of buddies that have jeeps, it's a never ending feud

Rear bumper "Crusin Off Road"??

I see in your build bio you mentioned the rear bumper from "crusin off road".
Are they doing a custom job for you?
I didn't see 4runners listed on their site for rear bumpers??
I am looking at the different options for a rear bumper and am trying to see what others have done. The full CBI or other bumpers with double swing outs and such are more than I want. I've just started searching the forum, I'm sure I'll find more as I dig the pages.
Any info/links would be great. And naturally pics of the runner when you get it on there.

No they built a bumper for a member on here [MENTION=102933]RaceTRaCk[/MENTION] and we're supposed to be putting them into production earlier this year but they got pushed back. There's a thread in here somewhere about it. I emailed back and for them a couple of times and last time I heard from them was over the summer. I'm not sure what going on as of now,I've kind of put it on hold for the time being myself.
4x4 Labs makes a really nice rear bumper with every option under the son but they are very pricey as well. The also have a DIY kit as a cheaper alternative which is probably what I'm going to end up going with.
Not a huge fan of the cbi rear bumper for the 4th gen as it doesn't really give you any extra added clearance or departure angle.
The only other option is to have somebody build you a custome hybrid style bumper,which many have done as well. Which is also something I'm considering at this point.

Totally worth it for the 4X4Labs bumper. I highly recommend it. Luke is a Toyota Jedi master of some sort. Only wish they were closer to us or vise versa. I hope to make it out west one day as well as up north now

Im getting some estimates on what needs to be repaired and then maybe I can go for the bumper sooner than later. Big issue is I need a new lift gate for the rear and I think my GOBI ladder is bent too.
The body shop I went to recommended a guy that might be interested in making me a bumper... Who knows how that might go..

Yeah i know last year was a lot of fun and the kids had a blast to! Hopefully this spring summer and then i wouldn't mid camping and wheeling for a couple of days at Uwharrie.
Yes they are the nicest rear bumper option IMO for our trucks! It's looking more and more like that's the way i'm going. I hear you on that i would love to get out west with the Rig one of these days to! Hope to plan a trip out there one of these summers and wheel and explore :thumb:
Absolutely. So did you get rear ended? Yeah I would just do what is absolutely necasary to replace and then get yourself set up with a nice steel bumper. Especially since insurance quotes are usually higher and leave a little extra cash for you to play with depending on where you source the parts and get the work done.
That could work great also. Let me know if you want i could send you some reference pictures that i have from a few different Hybrid bumpers that people have done that i was planning on using if i went that route.
