Official Classics Lift and Tire thread

Ok, this seems like the right place to post this.
Time for wheels and tires on the '92, stock ride height, with new moog springs in the rear. The picture (assuming I can upload it correctly) is as it sits now on stock wheels and 30x9.5 BFG at's. I'm looking at American Racing AR767 15X7, ZERO offset. Which should give me 3.5" backspacing, right? Please correct me if not. That should give me about an extra inch inside I think... I would like to go with 32x11.5's, but I dont think my 5spd and 4.3 gears would like them very much, so unless you all change my mind, it will be 31x10.5's. The big question, is this the right wheel, or should I look for something closer to a stock backspace?

You SHOULD be fine getting 32's (correct me if I'm wrong), my runner has either 4.56's or 4.88's, not really sure but either way it doesn't hurt it a bit. Mine came stock with 31x10.50's and it looked pretty decent, you can look at my pictures and judge for yourself tho to determine if that's the look you want. And with the backspacing, factory offset will allow the 32's just fine with no rubbing so that's up to you

Solid Axle suspension?

I have a 1995 4Runner and want to put an SAS kit, both front and back, on it for offroading, but i recently got 31" tires because that's the biggest I could get with no lift. So my question is, should i get the SAS kit with my tires now or wait until they wear out so can get bigger tires (like 35s) for the SAS kit?

First 32s will fit fine. I have 31.5s with room to spare.
Concerning tire choice, I have to say that I did A LOT of research myself before my big and oh so important purchase and I could not be happier with my choice.
I will first say that I spent hours and ended up with a list of about 9, then narrowed it down to about 4. I then waited and over a couple weeks I tried to find people in person who had the tires on my list, looking everywhere I went. I was lucky enough to find a couple of them and talk to the owners and listened as they drove off, which helped me cross them off my list. Then I was down to 2 and when I remembered that the Coopers were made in the US, I pulled the trigger.
I got a set Cooper Discoverer AT3. They are much quieter than most, handle surprisingly well, have deeper tread than almost all their competition, made in the US, look cool but not overly aggressive and do great off-road. Oh and to top it all off they do alright in the mud. In the reviews I read by pro testers they said these were the only AT tires they tested that did an ok job in the mud. I can attest to the truth of this, except for the time I went through sloppy mud and then right into deep sand. The only time I was ever stuck.
They do still sell these and I can not recommend them more. I will say that I would rather have a set of 33s on 17s but since I still have my old 15x10 mags and had to get the 31.5" models, my tire shop had to order them. But it was worth the wait as they were even cheaper there than I could find them online and I got a lifetime, full replacement warranty for all 4 tires for something like $82! Beat that.
So, if you need a new set of A/Ts, get the Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires and waste no more time researching. And if if you have an America's Tire by you, get them there. You will be so happy you did.

I can not say enough good things about Cooper tires. I have the Discoverer SST Pros and they are wonderful. I've put about 12k miles on them (Baja, Death Valley 3 times, a long drive with a trailer to Black Rock Desert) and they are barely wearing. They are WAY quieter than I expected, do well on road and give amazing traction in everything except this horrible clay that would stop ANY tire. They don't quite fit though without wheel spacers if you're running stock zero offset wheels so I added some 1.5 inch spacers.

Mine is currently on stock suspension with 31's. OME 2" is on its way. Decided to go 33x10.5 KM2's. So stoked!!!

Should look rad. Love the 10.5s. You upping gears?

Thanks man! No, not regearing ATM since I just forked out over a grand for the kit alone lol. Will do it probably a year later depending on how I feel about the highway commute since it's my DD.

How can I tell if my truck has stock suspension or if it's been modified?

I just bought it and everyone at my work says it sits a little high. I'm not sure if it's stock or not.

Put it on a lift and check the undercarriage. The shocks and leaf packs should tell you a lot of things.

Hi Ive got a lift that i am trying to frankenstein out. I was given rear coils from a rough country suspension lift (for 3") and am currently trying to piece together a kit to try and make it work. For the rear I am switching out the upper control arm and getting sway bar links with a larger adaptor. For the front though what are my options? I was going to order a differential drop kit as well as try to find a dealer for knuckle adaptors, crossmember and sway bar brackets. Will that be enough though? or will i need to consider ball joint spacers to level since the rear coils are supposed to give 3" lift. Am i forgetting anything? Any thoughts on the items i mentioned? Well im under there i was also planning on changing the ball joints and wheel bearings.
Anyways any advice would really be appreciated. If there isnt a response from this post i might make a dedicated.
thanks

As of right now only 2" body lift (for the 3.4) and sitting on 33 12.50s.
Gonna wait for the solid axle and try for some 35s
Before, stock 31 10.50
After, 2" bl 33 12.50 and little hammer love on the pinch weld haha. No rubbing

Our First 4Runner

My wife and I just picked up our first 4Runner. 92 4x4. We have a lot of plans for her. She will be used for our hunting and camping trips. No lift yet but looking into 4" lift in the near future.

Curious about this 4runner I got earlier this week. It's an 88 1st gen, 22re 5 speed, and I was told it sits on a rough country 2" lift. It's currently on 31x10.50r15's. I attached a picture of the front suspension for reference...
So every time I hit the speed bumps (even super slow) in my neighborhood, it absolutely wrecks my world. It almost seems as if my front suspension lacks any travel and is rigid, bouncing really badly. I used to have a 100 series land cruiser that I lifted by simply cranking the torsion bars, and I remember I had to re-index my torsion bars afterward to allow for up/down travel. Could these be wound too tight and need that? Or could it just be the old bushings/shocks/full suspension? Trying to keep my budget to a minimum on this rig, but any advice as to what would make the ride at least slightly better and allow for some flex would be much appreciated!

From my understanding, RC doesn't make 2" lift kit, only 4". And from the provided photo, looks like it's on BJ spacers, considering the angle of the CV joints and all, which could give you about that height of lift.

If I were you, I'd replace the shocks (look like they're stock ones) with the longer travel ones and probably get the diff-drop spacers to get the CV's angle back, or close, to stock. A pair of bigger, stouter torsion bars (OME) wouldn't hurt either.

Ahh thank you very much! There does seem to be a spacer of sorts on the joint. And I definitely intend on getting new shocks as soon as possible, these seem shot. Any of yall have any suggestions on affordable shocks? or a length of shock/an idea of a vehicle I could snag a set off at the Pick n Pull?
I do have a non-running, rusted-out YJ in my back yard on some procomp es3000 shocks...would those work? I'm unsure as the condition of them, haven't looked at it closely in a while. In college and the jeep is back home, but I'm luckily about to head there for a couple weeks between semesters and scavenge all I can use in my 4runner off the heep. Any other suspension (or general parts) I should cop off the jeep while I'm at it?

I wouldn't buy used shocks from a yard, save your dough for new ones. You could remove an old shock and measure it fully extended. Then buy one 2"-3" longer. Some shocks will specify if they are for a slight lift or standard height. I don't exactly remember but a couple may be Rancho and Bilstein.

Great idea, thank you! Found a few possibilities all for pretty cheap, so definitely ordering a set within a few weeks.
