i have a 96 T4R, 3.4L, 3 inch OME sus lift, with 285/75/16 (if i'm remembering correctly at the moment). I'm curious if there's any decent chips out there that would enable me to sync in my oversized tires with my cpu. im not so much looking for more horse power, just better throttle response and better mpg if thats even possible. i can be holding steady at 60 mph, 1700 rpms, slightly put a lil pressure on the throttle and it jumps to 3rd gear running like 2400 rpms. this happens constantly while driving. i believe its bc the cpu thinks its pushing stock size tires. would really appreciate any input asap. also not trying to spend too much $$. thanks!

For starters you could try driving in 'Power' mode from the 'ECT / Power' button that controls the trans. 'Power' mode adjusts the shift points in the transmission - used for towing, hauling a lot of weight, driving up steep and long hills, bigger tires...

Also, try pulling the EFI relay under the hood to reset the ECM. Doing this resets the ECM's fuel map and re-learns it as you drive. Search on resetting the EFI relay for more info.

Start with these (free) and see how it goes.

As for chips, I have not seen many positive reviews. A lot of $$$ for marginal gains. However, I have no experience with any.

There are mixed review on the deckplate mod and ISR mod but I'd say both are worth reading up on. This site has a ton of info on both and other sites do as well.

Edit: If its been awhile since the last tune up, replacing fluids / filters and cleaning sensors makes a difference too.

There's no chip that is going to help you out. There are such things as speedometer calibrators but that wont help you out with what you're experiencing, which is pretty normal btw. Try using the ECT button. It may help your situation. Lower gears will help for sure, but like you said you're not wanting to spend a lot of money. There may be other solutions but I honestly don't know. Is your rig caught up with maintenance and what gears do you have?

sorry for the delay on reply. i keep all my maintenance up to date. i know what you're saying about lower gears but i don't plan on going that direction. i will try the ECT button for awhile. also i will look into what the first guy said about resetting it. the reason i was asking about a power programmer/chip is bc my dad who has a 99 tahoe with a 4inch lift and 33s or 35s used a hypertech power programmer that came with the truck and all we did was type in the tire size. thank yall for replying, very much appreciated.
