Right Here! When I was 18, my dad bought me a new Grand Cherokee in 93. He had the means to buy such gifts. He's a great father and I try to be a great son to him. He knew that I would take care of it and I did. I got some flack for driving a new SUV at the time, but I didn't care. Those people were jealous. Anyway, sounds as though you are a great mom to him. If he is a great kid, then he deserves it! Wish you and your son luck with your new truck. It's truly a great one!! If the need arises that you need help with an issue, we'll be more than happy to help out!! Welcome to the forum :hatsoff:

I really LIKE that-I told him tonight how I hope that he will be VERY careful- he has no idea about the 4Runner-I feel like I have made a big mistake but maybe he will prove that he is a good driver !!

I don't think your choice is wrong in any way. Well, except for high insurance rates, but can teenagers get away from those anyway?!?!
Just a trick on that note, check to see what the rates are to list your son as a primary driver on your vehicle. It may save you a few bucks to switch primaries. I did that with my parents and it saved a bundle.

I'm a little jealous that he gets a ride nicer than mine, especially since I grew up in a family without a car. :moping:
BUT, I think it's awesome that you are so caring towards your son. I bought a Runner to keep my wife and kids and me safe. If I needed to get a car for my boys when they are older, why would I get them a compact that I wouldn't even drive? I'd want them in something safe, solid, reliable, and long lasting. Maybe he won't be able to afford another car until after university. In this case, with this Runner, he won't have to.

Vehicle-wise, no, this is perhaps the safest and most boring vehicle possible for a teenage boy, unless he finds a way to defeat the traction control (let us know how if he does!).
It's a lot of money to invest in a teenager's car, they tend to bump into things, and they're around other teenage drivers who tend to bump into them. I'm more concerned about my teenager being distracted and careless than reckless. But if you have the means and resources to spare, it's a very safe vehicle. I would get full coverage on it, as I have on my son's Subaru. My wife worked in insurance, she's got it figured out. Our daughter and son have both gotten in accidents, full-coverage was worth it.

Insurance is a wash in newer cars for young adults under the age of 25. I think mine is $2500/yr. My parents have been with the same insurance company for over 20 years and have had no accidents.
Whats nice is they done raise the rate with a speeding ticket.

1st question- I only got one keyless remote key -the other is not keyless -do most of you have 2 keyless remotes?
How should I surprise him on Christmas Day-It is going to be up at my mother's and we go there for lunch so i can just have it parked in driveway when we arrive or park in garage and have him go look for something- dealer gave me a big red bow!!

Tell him his present is in the back of the black 4Runner in the yard and then leave the set of keys sitting in the middle of the cargo area. (Only if you live in a save/visible area, lol. Getting your car stolen on Christmas would really suck.)

I got 2 keyless with mine and I think you should go with the second option. Park in garage. May I ask is he your only Child?

as for the surprise, would it be possible to get your hands on an older car that he would have absolutely no interest in? it would be fun to wrap those keys in a box and have him see that car and have another box wrapped in the driver seat with a just kidding note and have the 4runner keys in that box. it would be fun to have a little fun with this first! if not, the garage is a great idea, but it would be hard to see his reaction that way, and something tells me that you don't want to miss this reaction.

Is he the baby?..Like the youngest?..I am just curious because I have a 15 year old and planning on giving him my 4runner when he turns 16. And my 13 year old already asking for a full size TUNDRA double cabin for his 16th bd... Ouchhh!!...dunno if that's gonna happen tho'... LOL unless i win the lottery... LOL
