Recommndations for fuse/relay block options?

Anyone put one of these on their 4Runner yet? I'm going to order one this month and I plan to retrofit the AOB switches to work with it. I'll be ordering the Taco version fyi.

I did. When you call up there, ask for John. It is an amazing system and truly plug n play. They also have a Bluetooth controller that lets you remotely control lights from phone.

This is my plan as well, to use the SPod with my recently purchased AOB switches. Cant you simply order the SPod Source by itself without switches (see link) and then wire in the AODs?

I went the spod route, but blue sea systems route sure would have been cheaper. The thing I like most about it, is the single run harness into the cab.

There is a thread on TW about Skygear taking months and months for orders and still no product for several people and lacking communications. A good friend of mine just got his after 6 weeks and looks like he shipped his in front of people that ordered before him. Also it was missing some leads.
Sounds like from the thread that the guy is super busy with a full time job and family. I would be cautious about placing an order with him till he gets things under control with his current orders.

You should really check out a new product on the market Called NSA(no strings attached). Its from Trail Toys and allows you to hook up 8 items that are controlled with a remote. Similar to Spod but a better value. Owner is Nathan and a sponsor this year at Jambo. Super nice guy and saw this product in use when he tested it on his truck.

When you think about the cost of quality switches, fuse block, wires, mount and the time to hook it up the NSA is a great value.

Ended up pulling the trigger on the NSA option last night as I like the idea of not having to go through the firewall or mount switches. Thanks again for everyone's input here. Looking forward to getting the lights installed! Pics soon.

Also, has anybody who is running the Trail Toys NSA kit found that there is not enough functions? 8 just seems like you would run out of functions fairly quickly. Anybody had their remote die on them at an inopportune time. I guess i see the remote as a weak point in the system. If it fails how would you control your stuff? without major rewiring of course.

Also, anybody running the sPOD (from the source 4x4) why cant we just buy a bussman relay box kit without their buttons. I do not like their rockers i like OTTRAW rockers and the AOB buttons that match the stock ones.

Anybody else running anything else of note?

I'm mainly looking for waterproof, 10 relays, and the ability to use other rockers/buttons (OTTRAW and AOB). I dont mind fishing through the dash and while the remote seems cool i guess im pretty worried about it as a failure point in the system.

I didn't see this thread beforehand but I used a Blue Sea 12 Circuit with ground box and a strong L bracket for home bracing from Lowes. So far I have my HID lights connected to it ( not pictured). I have room for more additions to be installed soon.

What if the remote dies? Really? Just put a spare set of batteries in your console.

I was more so envisioning it getting crushed or wet or muddy or all the above. Basically a catastrophic failure of the remote.

Remotes can be had cheaply, like $15-$20 if I remember correctly. Had planned to pick up a spare or two just in case. Sure was convenient not having to mess with wires through the firewall during installation, nor modify the dash or interior for switch placement.

8 was enough for you? I guess one could always buy a second one but the Trail Toys NSA is quite expensive...

8 is enough for me. Don't really have a need for more than 4-5 circuits. Agreed, the NSA option feels somewhat expensive, but when you add up switches coupled with the time, effort, and potential damage done to your interior in placing switches if you have to cut any holes (especially for 8+) it was the solution I liked best. Opinions will vary like anything else though.

I don't think I've seen any of these relay boxes that will hold up to the amps your winch will put out if you actually need it full power.

I'm no electrician but I do understand numbers and to me they don't add up.

I didn't read through all the posts in this thread but you are correct no one should be using these for winches. You can certainly use an additional relay to control the winch but as you pointed out a winch will draw far more current then I have ever seen a Fuse/Relay box rated for. I have a Bussmann and its rated at 80amps total. I didn't run my ARB compressor through it as it was right on the edge and I prefer more safety margin to less.
