Solutions for FOB banging against dash?

I got a second Toyota-style plastic handled key ($8 plus cutting charge at local key shop) and added it to the set of keys on its own ring. Use the single, solo key in the ignition, the rest of the key ring junk stores in the tray under the E-brake handle. No noise, no extra weight on the IG switch.

Yup, that's along the lines of what I was envisioning, thanks! I rounded up some leftover adhesive weatherstrip foam in the workshop, so this is what I did for now. Not pretty (though not very visible to the driver, so who cares), and ahhh, the sounds of silence . Maybe I should patent it .

I had to do this to my dash / radio panels. Extremely bumpy roads caused that to rattle. Not no 'mo.

Put a strip of the "loop" side of the tan Velcro where it hits the dash. It's not too far off in color.

I know I've asked a no brainer once or twice, but the crap there is too much.

Stash a lone key inside the vehicle somewhere discreet, unlock the doors with the FOB then stash it in your pocket or cupholder while you drive. Easy.

If I understand these correctly, they would lead me to have two items to deal with every time - keys and FOB. I don't really like that, that's too much back and forth shuffling for me, I am bound to lose one of them .

My key and fob are on one keyring and my house keys are in my pocket all the time. It makes me feel like I have a rental car..... I love it.

Me too (see the photo in first post) - but that puts the FOB right where it can bang against the dash .

You could always look into using one of the newer keys that has the fob in the actual key itself.

Pretty good option.
A new 340i with comfort access would also be a solution. I'd recommend a 6MT m-sport.

But I do have a question for now - after screwing around with the FOB yesterday, I couldn't find it this morning, so I used the regular (not valet) mechanical key to unlock the doors.

The door unlocked, but the alarm went off (neighbors love that at 5am). Not having a FOB, it took me a while to turn it off, by putting the key in ignition and starting the engine.

Is that normal?

I really like the comfort access too, but I like recommending Land Rovers on here because it gets everyone so worked up.

That's interesting the key doesn't disarm the older systems.
My '01 came with the factory/port/dealer/whatever installed "VIP RS3200 Plus", and the users manual is still in the glovebox. When reading through it, I read that the key arms/disarms the system just like the FOB does. I've used the key several times, and it works just as the manual says it should.

If you turn the key to the right twice it should disengage the alarm. Just like when you unlock all of the doors. Also some dealer installed alarms have a red button hidden somewhere under the dash to disengage.
