Solutions for FOB banging against dash?

That's interesting the key doesn't disarm the older systems.
My '01 came with the factory/port/dealer/whatever installed "VIP RS3200 Plus", and the users manual is still in the glovebox. When reading through it, I read that the key arms/disarms the system just like the FOB does. I've used the key several times, and it works just as the manual says it should.

If you turn the key to the right twice it should disengage the alarm. Just like when you unlock all of the doors. Also some dealer installed alarms have a red button hidden somewhere under the dash to disengage.

From what I read, that works on the newer 3rd gens, but not on the older ones like mine. The link I posted above (and some others I've read) say that if you lock with FOB, but unlock with key, the alarm will go off, just like mine did. Dumb but true .

This is a perfectly reasonable question.

The 4Runner FB group are a unique bunch, and all of their questions are in some shape or form related to how big of a tire size they can run.

So far I love the solution of the foam strip.

But the Toyota key blank? - what a PITA that turned out to be. Had to go to four places to try to get it cut, and not a one would do it ("We don't cut customer-supplied blanks").

Finally cornered the guy at the local OSH, who initially said that he can't do it, it's against policy, and he can't even charge me since the cutting cost is included in the blank. So I begged and pleaded and said that he can do it without charging me, and I'll take the risk of it not working. He did it, the key works, and I made a new friend - but what a fiasco overall. Sheesh.

I got Lucky when my key seized in the ignition right after I bought my runner 6+ years ago!

A mobile locksmith said he could 'fix' it cheap ($50) but it would have a new "feature", the key can be removed at any point including when it's running!

WooHoo!!! And yeah do those keys knock around when offroading.

So that's another fix for those who know how, all I know is he broke one of the pins inside the lock to get it to let go and this is the result, perhaps a locksmith would know what that means. Lock wasn't removed, did it right where it is and took all of 5 mins. Luck all. :cowboy:

i got some velcro taped to that spot and on the fobs i have the other matching piece, works like a charm!

You could always look into using one of the newer keys that has the fob in the actual key itself.

I'd give my left nut for this. I have a '99 Hilux Surf, so ideally I'd need an empty housing that I can just pop my existing FOB circuit board into and I am done. Anyone know which switchblade or key-fob combo would hold our existing circuit board?

You could always look into using one of the newer keys that has the fob in the actual key itself.

I wouldn't recommend going this route unless someone starts selling decently made FOBs for our gen keys. I did this and the FOB itself was junk. Died in under a month.

Mine doesn’t swing around and hit the dash when driving, you must be on and off the gas like a race car driver haha

Just drive your truck more. It'll fix itself eventually.
