Stolen

The only identifiable damage is on the passenger front fender/hood where a branch fell on it and the where the antenna broke off.

Did you post on Pirate? There are some dudes over there that would likely take it as a challenge and try to find and beat the perps to within inches of life.

That is a nice truck. Sorry to hear your loss brother. Thief hold the truck about a month or more before they list it on a site to sell because they know you are watching. We'll for sure check local Craigslists. I scan most West tX to Dallas CL for toyota trucks.

Have you informed the local police?

Thieves suck and to be honest I believe whatever they get when they do get caught by somebody, which eventually happens, they deserve. No sympathy from me.

This is a true story. It happened a long time ago but is karma at its best. Please don't respond saying "that's illegal" or "you could get sued". Just take it for what it's worth.

A friend of mine's father gave him his Chevy pickup when he turned 21. It was a pretty decent truck and one of the last 454 Silverado's made.

Shortly afterwards he moved out and got an apartment.

About two weeks after moving there he came out on Saturday morning to go to work and his truck door was open and wing window busted out. Brand new Kenwood stereo and speakers gone.

Insurance paid off, he replaced everything.

Three weeks go by, he is checking on the truck periodically at night and nothing happens then BAM - same shit. Comes out, drivers wing busted and stereo gone.

So at this point he has had enough. He bought a decent used stereo and put it in.

Then he took a 1x6x12 piece of pine and cut 6 lines in it with a table saw and glued razor blades into the kerfs. He stuck the pine up under the stereo under the dash where you had to reach to undo the back bolt holding the stereo in.

Then he left his truck unlocked.

About a month later he came out and sure enough the door was open. This time however the stereo was still there. There was however blood everywhere and a trail of blood leading away from the truck to about 20' feet away where it stopped, most likely a car he got into.

Payback is a ***** and either that POS bled out that night or got a serious lesson about messing with another mans vehicle. If he is alive I am certain he has some pretty bad scars on his hands.

Karma.

Something similar happened to one of my Dad's friends.

He had an old chevy pickup he had been restoring and parts kept going missing from it. He decided to put a baby monitor in the engine bay and hoped they would return. They did and he was woken up to the sounds coming in on his end. He crept out the backdoor with his son's aluminum little league bat to find one laying underneath the truck unbolting the headers with just his legs sticking out and one standing on the front bumper trying to get at something toward the firewall. The guy laying down got a few quick shots the the knees and the other a few to the lower back. It didn't stop there, but that's all I will divulge.

He ended up having the face them in court. One rolled in on a wheelchair and the other had a brace around his torso with both arms suspended outward and his jaw wired shut. The first wouldn't get the chance to walk right ever again and the other had a fractured shoulders, arms, and vertebrae. Both were sentenced and my Dad's pal went home to his family along with his restitution.

so you are actually only a few hours away from my place (east idaho) i will keep my eyes open all around here down south.

Also keep and eye out on statewidelist.com for bumpers, shrockworks or whatever you have on the truck.... hope you get it back in one piece!

Have you been calling salvage yards in the area to see if the bumper shows up or something else identifiable?? Or rather, yards a safe distance away from the theft location... I don't know how helpful salvage yards would be with something like this but it seems like it's worth a shot.

I didn't see any mention of insurance, have you talked to them already? Do you have coverage for theft?

Thieves are the worst kind of evil in the world. If you find out who stole it could we arrange a party in which we use the thief as a pinata?

I could use a stress reliever such as the joy of bludgeoning a thug who
cares nothing of other's property. I'll hit until I'm too tired to hit.

There are several great free apps / I use Mokriya. This allows you to save keyword searches on craigslist by area. So if any keywords related to parts that are installed on your truck come up - you get notified of the new listing right away vs trying to search every part by name.

You can also save a search on ebay and get notified as well if they try to clear anything out that way. (this is via ebay / no the mokriya app)

The best, FREE, officially licensed craigslist app for iPhone and Android

Also, if you are looking to buy something, it gives you the edge as you usually can get it before anyone else has a chance to view the listing :)

Any good news?

No good news at this point. End of week two is quickly approaching.

Fortunately the truck is covered under theft/comprehensive and they've been in the loop from the start. I've been scouring CL and other sites, but as time drags on I'm becoming discouraged and putting forth less effort. The area it was taken from is in the middle of the state with no salvage yards nearby, so it'd be the shotgun approach calling every yard in the state. Also if the perps went the joyride and ditch route there are so many forest service and logging roads that it could take weeks to cover them all.

Thanks for all the advice and interest in this shitty situation.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Maybe it will be found this summer with more people going out. I'm always here for You as well being kinda close.

Still nothing on my rig, but I may have found a replacement. The replacement is a low mileage 2002 that I need help from you guys in determining the value, so I can come up with a reasonable offer. Details below.

2002 sport
Black
42,000 miles
Stock in good condition
Regular oil changes, but other maintenance items overlooked

42k is so low.

Only one owner? If not then be very skeptical.

I would check Carfax for miles, also use the VIN to check Toyota's website for records. Any recall or other service would be logged.

One owner vehicle.

I'm not concerned about the mileage being falsified becuase the owner is a friend and past professor of mine who buys way more cars than he needs and garages them most of their life. He has only driven this one a few times this year, just to keep it alive.

The rig isn't even up for sale, but after telling him about my situation he saw it as an opportunity to offload it and get something new.
