T-SB-0081-12 Headlamp Surface Oxidation

Got mine fixed finally. Unfortunately, I found a small chip in the very front of the hood that I'm pretty sure wan't there last week but I'm not positive so I didn't pursue it.
There's a new part so it was probably redesigned.

The material was this:
10 Support, Bumper Cover
R 52115-35140 $37.78
L 52116-35130 $37.78

but it has been replaced with:
Toyota Part: SUPPORT, FR BUMPER S
Part NO.: 52116-35131

Good to know, Thanks for the info. I had an appointment for them to look at it but had to cancel and never had the chance to reschedule...

Now, does anyone know the part numbers to those plastic pieces (Right and left side) that's supposed to be underneath the headlight? My bumper kind of buckles when you apply pressure to the plastic part where the headlight meets the bumper. From what I found out reading one of the projector threads, the techs didn't put those two pieces back on.. :mad2:

Depends on Dealer

Whether the dealer is or is not willing to write up the headlamp cover for warranty replacement will depend on the service write-up guy you get at the dealer! The guy I got at the dealership I have been using for the free 2 year maintenance program only was not "helpful";but full of BS; he claimed that the TSB did not apply to my TE b/c I had a "different" drivetrain! AND that the tech cleaned off the oxidation which was due to tree sap!(I don't park near/under trees!)Rather than cuss him out, I went to another dealer;the first guy had an attitude; told me that just b/c its a TSB does not mean it will be automatically honored;made me make an apptment to come back to have a tech look at it; at the apptment, another guy wrote it up and finally got the replacement parts on order for both headlamp covers and the noisy driver's seat back! This will be replaced under warranty.

I had the same exact situation. I brought my 4Runner Trail in for service and printed out a copy of this TSB. He was a dick, and said just because there is a TSb doesn't mean they will switch stuff out. I told him I understood but it is pretty obvious that I am experiencing this issue. He looked over the headlamps and said that a tech would still have to look at it, though he mentioned he noticed the hazing. So I had to make an appointment a week out to have a tech look at it. That is Tuesday of this upcoming week. Then Im sure I will have to wait another few days and drive back up to the dealership to have them installed. What a waste. Toyota is really starting to disappoint me, and I am losing faith in the company... Also, the guy couldnt confirm whether or not the headlamps on the TE were different than SR5, and I also have a leaking shock that he initially said was not covered under warranty. I have 9500 miles on my TE! WTFrank?!?

^^I had a similar experience. Went in to the dealer I purchased the TE from used and asked them to replace the headlight under the TSB. The service writer gave me some bs about carwash soap causing the hazing (???WTF). I told them about the TSB I saw online and he said you can't just go off what you read on the forums because there is a lot of misinformation. I was getting pretty pissed because they said they would just clean it for me. He finally agreed to have a tech look at it and then I guess they went in the office and found the TSB and agreed to replace the lights. This is all about the dealers worried that Toyota wont reimburse them for these expenses. Some dealers are better than others. After another bad experience at this dealer I decided all my service will be done at the dealer we bought my wife's Venza from. They replaced the driveshaft under the TSB no questions asked or bs.

Hey Gooserunner: FYI, The TE has the smoked(colored)headlamp cover NOT the clear cover as in the SR5 or the Limited. Make sure that Toyota orders the correct ones! I had to bring my truck back in 2 more times b/c I did not notice it until I left the dealership after it was changed!

Back from Afghanistan!

Welp I'm back from the 'Stan and I have a few projects to do. I finally got my truck in so they can get my headlamps done, and it took about an hour which I was rather pleased about. Once they pulled up the truck the service writer said the new headlamps really "popped", I said, "they do but only one problem... they aren't TE headlamps..."

The lens/covers are clear on all 5th Gen headlights. The separate plastic trim piece on the inside is black on TE's and chrome on SR5/LE's. It is held to the housing with screws once you take it apart and can be painted black or whatever color you want.

Has anyone with VIN #s greater than the TSB VINs tried to replace the lights under warranty and succeeded? My 2012 has hazing going on both lights and when I brought it to the dealership this morning, the service guy told me that these are not under warranty and that they're normal wear and tear with any vehicle.

I questioned the "normal wear and tear", and told him about the TSB. However, my VIN # is not within the range of those listed. I'm hoping that they can replace them, but if not I'm planning to polish and seal with Wolfgang plastic sealant. At least it's on the top horizontal part which doesn't affect light output.

Got the truck back and tech confirmed that my VIN does not fall under the TSB, however, he did replace the passenger side only, which was the worse side. That's pretty good customer service in my book. I'll just polish the drivers side and seal up both lights with Wolfgang Plastik to be safe.

Shoot, the passenger light is aimed lower than the driver's.

I got the new headlights last year and I think they were fine until just recently. Pretty sure it was the touchless car wash. I got the deluxe package with color polish and sealer.

I have this issue as well, and i believe i fall between the VIN numbers.

not sure if i want to deal with the hassle of calling the dealer, and doing all this bullshit.

Mine was an easy swap. I took in with me a printout of the TSB, and it's plain to see the hazing on the lens. Two hours later I had brand new headlight assemblies swapped in and was on my way.

Mines was replace by the dealer after showing them the TSB. Oh yeah, after replacing the headlights the tech scratch my bumper. So I did what a normal person would do and complain. After complaining, service manager check it and was very upset at the tech. He told me to bring the truck back and they will re-paint the bumper for free. So came out a happy person. :)

like the dudes above me did. I printed out the T-SB and showed it to them and they replaced the headlights without a problem. I'd call first to make an appointment so they have the parts in stock. Pretty happy about this. Thanks guys!

Probably the best picture so far showing headlamp surface oxidation!

dont get too excited.... had mine replace earlier this year and the new ones are showing signs of oxidation now.... :frusty:

I finally got mine on order. My dealership said it took them 3 weeks because of the hoops they had to go through since the vehicle was purchased in Hawaii. Could be BS but they said there different policies involving Alaska and Hawaii originated vehicles.
MB

I ask the dealer if they could replace my headlights with the trail, but they said no to me. I am not sure if the other guys up in here were lucky enough to get the trail ones.

Has anyone swapped their foggy LE headlights via the TSB and replaced them with Trail Edition lights?

Update, the new headlamps have arrived and are being installed today during the 30k service. I'll pick it up in a couple hours.:thumb:
