I've been towing my 2014 Keystone Passport Express 252BH (4200lbs dry) on the back of my 2011 4Runner 2WD SR5 all over FLA for the past couple of months with a Blue Ox and a P3 break controller. It does GREAT!
So I've been read threads on towing and have got a few questions. I'm looking at a small camper in the 2600 - 3000 lbs range to tow with my 2016 TEP.
I've ordered a break controller P3, and I'm interested in feedback on air bags ( brand and ease of install) and sway bars or distribution hitches?
So we are planning on moving from Florida to Oregon and needed a good all-around vehicle that could tow so we decided on the 2013 4Runner Limited. We plan on renting a 6x12 U-Haul trailer and will have it close to the max weight. We also will have a tray loaded with a few items but probably not over 100 lbs. on it. Lastly, we'll have 5 adults, a dog, and a cat on board. We aren't in a hurry so we are planning on taking 9-12 days to get out there, seeing several things along the way, including the Grand Canyon. From what I can tell, the highest elevation we'll be hitting will be around 6k feet. It's my first time towing anything this significant for this amount of miles so I'm a little anxious...especially once we start hitting the hills. I've been doing a lot of reading here and feel better about the trip and the truck's capabilities than when we first planned it.
I'll be sure to take lots of pics along the way to document the trip and get them posted here. Might not get them on the board until after the trip though.
Wish us luck!
The manual says not to use cruise control while towing. Although I have used it on straight flat areas with no issues.![]()
