My friend bought this for the Wii a few weeks back. We were up until 2:30 playing on Saturday night.
I feel the same way. I like the looks of the 3rd gens, but never owned one. I really did like my 4th gen v8...but i'm in love with my 5th gen, and wouldn't trade it for just about anything (if i was given a new 2011 duramax ltz 4dr loooooaaaddddeeeeddd i wouldnt complain). It does everything I want and looks just the way I want...and will look way better after he gets his lift next month and new shoes when I get home.

I can see the progression from the 1st gen to the 2nd and the 3rd. The 4th was a big deviation that I hated at first, but now I LOVE it. My tiny brain can't wrap around "the 5th was perfect update of the 3rd gen". It's another large departure which I think resembles the FJ, not the 3rd at all. Trust me I love all the 4Runner years, owning all but 3 and 5. I can't dig the Limited 5th gen is all.

The 5th Gen Trail edition looks most like the 3rd Gens to me. I like the Limited 5th Gens also, but I'm not sold on the SR5s.
The 4th Gens look fine lifted, but just don't quite have it in their stock form. Still a very nice vehicle though.

Oh let's just admit it, all 4runners look pretty bad ass lifted. It's been my favorite car since I was in 3rd grade. I can remember my dad having Petersons 4Wheel and Off Road and seeing the ad for the 1985 4Runner. So, while all the other kids had Lambos on their wall, I had an ad of a Japanese truck. Guess what my first ride was? My wife is still trying to grasp why I lift every truck and suv I have owned.

And the Landcruiser guys just laugh at our bubble gum machine dispensed 4Runners no matter what year...especially abroad where they get diesel engines and solid axles.
Got a quarter for a TE?

I typically stay out of the 5th gen styling pissing contests that go on here... but my little metaphor just compelled me.
It will be interesting to see the changes when the mid gen refresh takes place.

ha, sorry I just had to, I obviously don't feel that way or I wouldn't be on this forum...
Hopefully they will go back to some late 4th gen stuff (Projector headlights, LED tails, etc...)

...and I can pick up a Salsa Red TE with the KDSS, V8, LED tails, integrated antenna...I think I will beat the 4th gen for a year or so longer and fold.
In all honesty, I think I actually prefer the exterior styling of my old 3rd gen more than my 5th gen. It wasn't until I returned to my 3rd gen following a test drive of the 5th gen that I realized just how dated the interior of my 3rd gen had become. IMHO, the exterior design of the 3rd gen is just one of those classic designs that will be desirable for years to come for a lot of people. However, as much as I liked my 3rd gen, there's not a chance that I would give up my 5th gen to return to it.

Yes, it has its problems, but it just looks so sexy. I love my 3rd Generation machine. I'd take a 2011 in an equal value swap, though.
