How did you get the p321's to fit?? I bought those and even with shaving down the grill from the truck they were too "tall". Did you cut off the plastic cover from the speaker? Just curious.

Refer to my post in the link above. I had to modify the OEM brackets and reused it. I have pictures that may give u an idea. Give me about a week and I can take new pictures of the dismounted speakers to give you a better idea of what I did. I need to add bass blockers of a different frequency. The passenger side took some special fitment but its possible.

I know that most people are using the infinitys and/or jbls due to the fact that they are close to 2 ohms. Now, i am planning a complete speaker overhaul....just one question, is there any reason not to use 4 ohm speakers? Any negative effect on anything?

This week I just found out that the distortion im hearing in front isn't from my rockford p132 in the dash, but the OEM 6x9 in the doors. My deck is an aftermarket Alpine so I don't know how the 6x9's behave with the OEM deck.

Now its time to spend more money.

Here we go. Updates:
I installed Kenwood 6965S 6x9 in the front doors recently to go along with my Rockford P132.

While I was not initial install, I was lucky enough to have an aftermarket Alpine with a multi frequency equalizer. Like I said in my previous posts, tuning is everything. I don't know how much flexibility the OEM deck would have in tuning sound but I'd imagine its just simple treble, mid, bass settings.

So the Rockford 2 way speaker and the Kenwood is a 3 way speaker. That means it's tweeter overload! My ears were bleeding from so too much highs and the Kenwood 6x9 didn't produce as much bass as the OEM 6x9. None of this surprised me. I reused oem speaker basket and insulating foam to seal things up nice and tight.

I just tried to play a frequency and tried to get the dB as closely as possible to help smooth the sound out.

After things were smoothed out I gave the bass a few dB bump and the treble was now tamed by dropping the tweeter frequencies by a few db.

There's a -3dB switch in the tweeter so I'll probably enable this to get the highs in the dash speakers.

Great thread guys! Just grabbed the JBL GX302s for my 2017 4R Limited Dash speaker upgrade. I'm hoping these improve upon the so so mid/highs on my JBL setup.

Let's say I decide to try (with a low expectation) and replace my 6x9 front door speakers in my 2017 Limited with JBL setup. being the dash speakers are crossed over to receive the mids/highs while the door 6x9s only get the lows, what would happen if the new aftermarket speakers are coaxial unlike the stock 6x9s? Would this be problematic or not? The stock 6x9s have no tweeter.


The plan currently in the works:
New JBL GX302 3.5" speakers going in dash
Rockford fosgate 8" P3SD2-8 to replace stock sub
All else stays stock (head unit and jbl amp)

Optional (from above question) JBL 6x9 GX962.
The JBL after markets were chosen simply because they are 2.3ohm and high sensitivity just like the OEM stuff.

Will do! I believe I will have the GX302 installed later this week. The front doors are 6x9's, you can confirm this on the JBL website. Now I just need to decide if its worth it or not to replace them too

Had the JBL gx302's put in last week and the sound improvement is worthwhile. Not night/day but more clarity and natural,sounding. I did have to up the volume due to them being less efficient. This added bass then so I had to reduce the bass levels in the HU.

Next week, the amp and sub go in.

Apologies in advance if this has already been addressed - I'm on my phone and haven't gone through all 35 pages of this thread.

EDIT: oh never mind I guess this has been addressed but people are putting 3 ways in the doors anyhow. Bad luck on my random selection of posts 5hat I thought had given me the gist of the thread.

I see a lot of references especially here at the end to putting 2- or 3-way 6x9s in the door locations. It's been a few years since I installed a good sound system so perhaps the thinking has changed but this seems totally bass ackwards to me. You've got mids and highs on top of the dash and the tweeters in the 6x9s will be firing at your leg and just muddying things. Wouldn't it make more sense to get a set of separates and put the mid and/or tweeter in the dash and the woofer in the door? Or make your own with a small two-way in the dash and a 6x9 woofer in the door with appropriate passive crossovers wired in?

Yes. That being said, I put two-way 6x9s in the front doors and 3" Kappa full range speakers in the dash. Although it sounds great, if I had it to do over again, I'd use components.

After the install I felt the need to up the volume on average from 15-20 to 20-25 (the volume number form the stock HU).

I had them installed when my remote start went in, so I cannot comment on the specifics.

The bass blockers that others have used are described in posts 200 to 205 of this thread. I used the ones that came on the stock speakers.
