When will the Bilstein 6112 be released?

Magnetic4R - im gonna let you do your first so you can tell me :)

You order your SAW from Wheelers? When i called them they said shipping was going be $30…I laughed and hung up and ordered from Mudflaps.

Sure, but it won't be for another 5,000 miles when I hit 20K miles. =) lol.
No, got it from RG79, trying to save a few dollars.
I initally contact yotadan and was quoted $18 for shipping to CA.

I wish I would have seen this thread sooner. So i had my 6112's installed today. I wanted a 2" lift so i set the snap ring to the 4th setting (out of 5) because the instructions that came with the kit stated the 4th ring location was good for 2" of lift. I ended with with way more of a lift!!! Im going to buy some small coil compressors and try to compress the coils enough to lower the snap rings 1-2 settings.
I didnt take measurements but im guessing i got over 3" of lift.

Sorry bro, that's the exact frustration that i didn't want to get into. To me, Bilstein didn't quite put the time in for the end result, atleast in the lift height department. Did someone machined the ring perch too high? or the coil was too long or the spring rate is higher then adverstized, who knows. So, if the 2nd setting from the bottom gives ~1.75" lift and the 4th setting gives ~3" lift, I assume the 3rd setting may give you ~2.25" or 2.5" of lift. And for those that want to set it to Zero lift, that may not be possible, the bottom setting may get you about ~1" lift.

wow... I think we need some answers from TAP on this. If I recall in their video, they stated that they were involved the development/testing of the 6112.

Wonder how the struts will work at 3"?

Wait, I'm confused, you said you didn't take any measurements, so how do you know if you got way more than 2"

Also, I see two shiny strut mounts sitting next to the assembled 6112s. Looks like they reused the original ones??

Maybe we some direct input from Bilstein on the circlip grooves diagram vs actual height increases upon install!

Yes i had them re use the original mounts as they were still in great shape. I'll be returning the new mounts. With how high the front end looks compared to the rear I am guessing 3+ inches, but i may be wrong
Here are some before and after shots. Keep in mind the street is slightly slanted down hill in the second shot

Yeah, looking at pic, i bet you are at least 3. Is the rear stock?

Yes the rear is stock.
On a side note the ride is very smooth, even smoother than stock. I drove down a bumpy road and i swear it just floated over the bumps and dips.

letzrace,

Can you post the heights from the ground to top of wheel wells front and rear?

Much appreciated!

I'm sorry that you gents that have done the install already have had to be the guinea pigs, but, if it's any consolation, you're providing the rest of us with invaluable info... I just hope that those that have to drop down a groove or two, will not have to pony up the $$$ for another alignment.

But, I do feel it's time for someone to step up to the plate and address this situation with good info on numbers for each circlip groove.

Their should only be two options in UCAs for anyone who doesn't truly wheel the shit out of their truck. Light Racing or Camburg ball joint UCAs. The latter being my most favorite by a large margin. PM me if you need an explanation why, and where to get the Camburgs with Moog ball joints already installed as that is a pita for anyone not having a press and knowing how to use it.

What's the difference between the Camburg and the Total Chaos arms? Why would one be preferable over the other (adjustability, greasability, rebuildability?)

I was not aware that TC started offering an OE type BALL JOINT UCA.

If they have, worth a look.

I wasn't saying they have an OE joint, I was just wondering what the difference was between the 2 arms and joints. Is the uni-ball a better option than the OE type? are there advantages or disadvantages? I am not well versed in suspension parts so was just wondering.

Ah, tell you what, this is going off topic of the 6112s. If the OP is ok with this being discussed here, no worries. If not, anyone is welcome to PM me.

Suddenly, the Icon coilovers, and others with threaded shock bodies, are looking better despite the higher cost. Lifts, even if not predictable, at least would be easily correctable.

Not knowing what one will get per circlip groove, and no answers or support forthcoming, leaves me wondering if I made the right decision??

Well i called Bistein NA East to see if they could provide some information on this issue. The technical support guy said that we should not be seeing these kind of variances. He said that advertised lift amounts are averages, but we should only be seeing like 0.1 to 0.2" in variances….not and inch or more.

He also said that the only thing he could think would be causing this is the spring seat being on upside down ( i asked if thats even possible..) or the coils not being seated properly.

Basically he said that he would need to speak directly with those individuals that are having the problems and not go off hear say to provide any real assistance.

He also said that he wasn't aware of this being an issue and haven't heard any noise around the shop from the other guys about this, but would def like to hear from us on this.

@lezrace and '15weissrhino have you guys contacted Bilstein or TAP?

Once WE figure it out, it won't be such a big deal. What I plan to do is setup the shocks where the opening of the c-clip is in a position that I can get piston ring pliers on to while its mounted. So when I have them all installed, if the ride height is not correct, I will simply use similar spring compressors to the ones in the link below, compress the spring, lift the spring perch, move the c-clip, perch down, decompress springs and done! Sounds real good on paper, no? Guess we'll see next weekend when hopefully I install my set.

Crap! I forgot about that! Some people on the FJ forums did that exact thing with the 5100s and had a similar issue, and it was an easy mistake to make for the lay mechanic. Whats worse is with the 5100s it would/could lead to a catastrophic failure. Whoever had the problem needs to check that ASAP!
