3.4 L 5VZFE Rebuild in Baltimore, Maryalnd area

Hello Guys/Gals,

My father just found out his crankshaft on his 3.4L 5VZFE is damaged due to the crank pulley falling off (mechanic did not tighten pulley to torque specifications). Since the engine needs to be removed and the engine has over 200k on it, I told him he should just rebuild the motor since he is already going to pay labor for removal/install.

My question is whether or not anyone knows of a reputable place around Baltimore that won't charge him a ridiculous amount for a rebuild while doing good work.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Just to be clear, you are talking about rebuilding the bottom end of the engine correct?

You may just want to go looking an engine on CL. I am sure you can find one for a pretty good price.

To me a typical re-build involves the top half of the engine not the bottom half. Also the engine doesn't need to be removed for a typical rebuild.

If the crank is messed up, the engine is coming out. You could swap in a used motor, but i would stay away from craigslist. check Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and find a salvage yard with an actual warranty. Personally i would go for the rebuild if you have the chance, but i'm on the wrong side of the country to offer you advice on places.

I was told the engine had to be removed, thus an opportunity to rebuild.

I have searched craigslist but with caution... I'd rather go to a reputable shop in the area that could do a nice rebuild if it was possible.

I will check into the link that you provided for me and see if any engines are available.
