I did mine today. I used Kingpin's pics, a hint from Harper and some help from Antman to find the appropriate reverse sensing line to tap into. I also used the ASWC instead of the PAC SWI-JACK unit. The ASWC was literally a few taps into the appropriate wires (all in the instructions) and instantly worked. The SWI-JACK didn't have the same success yesterday. Programming was too complex (or I'm not smart enough?). So, I did a quick install yesterday, but when I didn't like the steering wheel controls and didn't have the full functionality (damn you, reverse wire), I had to back out and try again after more research. I decided today to give the ASWC another shot. Everything worked out well, and I'm happy with the functionality. I think I might need a head unit upgrade at some point though....

I installed:
Kenwood DNX 6960
ASWC
Spliced into an RCA (ala Kingpin pics) and into the reverse sensing wire.
XM unit
Ipod cable, USB cable, RCA video cable for future screens in the headrests.
Microphone in the center overhead console.

I tried installing the GPS and XM antennas on the bar in the back of the dash, but I got less than stellar reception so I ran them to the back of the vehicle and outside while I figure out the next best way. I might take a stab at the under seat module and see if I can harness the shark fin for it, but if not, I'm ok with it as it is. I ran the mic line from the head unit down and around on the drivers side up the A pillar to the center overhead and it is out of the side of the unit. It is out of the way and picks up my voice well enough. I'd rather use the stock one, but I haven't seen that wiring diagram to know which to tap into.

Here is my thread on Scosche vs Metra dash kits. I have both, but I feel the Schosche is better aesthetically. I ended up using several layers of Krylon Fusion flat black, but I'm going to experiment with the Satin black and the Satin clean UV on the old Metra kit to see what finish I might want to change it up to.

could someone please help me find the pics of the 2 photos comparing nav and non-nave stereos out of the car, I have been searching for 2 days and have not been able to find them, harper7 mentions them, but only shows the nav pic. I am so close to ordering the bits and pieces, I just need to see a pic of the non-nav unit on the back.

Thank you harper7, now I can finally get the parts ordered, normally I have a beer while searching but seeing as it is christmas, wine will do.

I have a nice alpine, iXA-w404 with the bluetooth module but I don't want to put it in just yet, Even though the non-nav unit is, well, un-enthusiastic, I don't want to change it just yet, I want to see if alpine brings over some of its euro stuff in 2012, or maybe I just don't want to take on installing the alpine I have just yet, because integrating the backup cam and bluetooth and steering wheel controls would take too much time, and time is something I always seem to be short on as I travel 100% for work, so when I do get home, I must mod quickly. so no plans on changing the HU for now. after reading ALL the posts over the last months concerning every stereo mod in the past 10 years on 4runners, I plan to go the route of Ark_swamper and BFLAN, keep the stock HU and add stuff downstream. the Bluetooth on the stock HU WORKS and I don't want to give that up. Entune is what I really want, and I may try that route at some point but for now, I can't even found a photo of the dam thing.

that being said, here is what I plan to do:
take one of these and connect it to the stock HU:

Then take the RCA connectors out of one of these:

and connect it to this:

then run some RCA cables over to this:

then run some wires back to this and connect back into factory speaker wireing:

oh and run some other wires over to one of these:

which is installed in this:

then it will be time for Dynamat and speakers, and possibly a new HU, I am still holding out hope that I will be able to find a way to put Entune in my fo runner. otherwise, who knows.

Well ..there's one up on ebay for sale out of a 2010 4Runner for $3695 OBO . They had 3 listed ,sold 2 and one went for $1649 I see.

I sold mine a long time ago on Ebay for $800. I had listed it for $1000 OBO and got an offer the next day for $700 . Countered with $800 and away she went!
Bought my Pioneer Avic Z120BT Nav for $950 and installed it.Couldn't be happier and still love it.

Wow, I may have to put my nav unit up for sale. I don't think I'll ever use it again after putting in the work to convert to an after market.

2. What's anyone's feelings on this powered sub that could fit under the seat. I'm not looking for a huge system as I care more about the storage in the back, just need a little bump. I did some measuring and it looks like this thing would fit.

So, the guy in Springfield didn't correctly hook-up your reverse or headlight tap? Don't think I'll be using him!

I've had AVIC series Pioneer units in my trucks for the past 10 years or so, and I've always liked what they accomplished (unfortunately went through three in one year after two vehicle break-ins in Crystal City in 08...).

Anyway, I plan on purchasing the new AVIC-Z140BH when it hits the street. I've toyed with just going for their new "App Radio", but I'm convinced it's not as slick as they make it sound. Plus, the new Z140 claims to have some of the same features. I need to find a good installer in the DC area, though. I've been to a few, and I haven't been too happy with any of them due to expensive prices, poor install, or unwillingness to bypass the unit for navigation operations underway. Anyone have any suggestions?

Question. what are the best speakers to tap into for high level inputs for my amp?? the front seems to get the full range, but then will I lose the signal in party mode??

Also, where is everyone running their power wire through the firewall?

If you need a hand installing any of that, let me know. I took apart my SR5 2x and the limited once as well. I would also suggest some posi tap connectors (see my pics above) and some double ended connectors from Home Depot or some electronics store - maybe Micro Center? The posi taps will keep you from needing to splice lines, and the radio harness will need to connect to the adapter harness with the wire connectors.

You may want to consider where to tap into the back up camera feed. The Positaps will come in handy here, and you'll want to make your own RCA cable by cutting one apart. I know it's a little bit of a haul for you, but I'm only a few miles beyond Bobby's shop.

It of course makes sense in my head that we could just cut those wires coming from the G20, splice an RCA female jack onto the G20 Plug end, and then an RCA male jack onto the camera end. Then we could just feed the video in to the nav with whatever we want. As long as we activate the backup camera feed with a switch like Antman has already done...

It can't be that easy...right?

2010 4runner JBL Nav/Premium Sound System for sale

Is there a market for this stuff? Actually like the Nav but don't use it at all. Looks slick and seems to work well. In Hawaii there's not much need for Nav. Also want to include the 10 channel JBL amp. Also works well but I need more freedom to adjust and tune...Anyone care to make an offer? I'll get a pro shop to remove the head unit, amp and as much of wiring harness in tact as humanly possible. The sub you can have for free. Not the box. Just the really heavy duty, ground pounding sub with the 6 ounce magnet. Can also have the stock speakers but I trashed one of the front door speakers.
