Annoying iPod Controls

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find any definite answers. I just bought a 2010 4Runner Limited with Nav today (only 13,000 miles on it and I absolutely LOVE the car). But when I connected my iPod to use through the in dash display, it automatically starts playing the selected artist/song/playlist when it is highlighted in the menu while browsing.

Is there anyway at all to fix this?
I would like to be able to browse until I select a song.

PS one more question i just remembered. As far as SafetyConnect goes, I can't find anywhere online to activate it. Do you just have to press the SOS button in the car to sign up for the service?

The iPod control sucks...one feature you're going to have to live with. It will only play the song if you take more a sec or so to go to the next song. It's very archaic if you ask me. For 2010, I think they could have done a lot better.

As for SafeyConnect, I think if you press the button, you will get a message to call to activate. I think you can just call Toyota and they will point you in the right direction.

I thought Toyotas iPod control was annoying until I got into a Mini and tried theirs. I love the toyota ones now.

Your dealer normally activates safety connect when the car is purchased. Contact the dealer it came from and give them the VIN. They will handle the rest.

You have to remember that Toyota is in the business of building reliable cars/trucks that are prefaced on what they know works and on what is cost efficient. Very rarely will you find them on the cutting edge of technology in the vehicles.

I absolutely love the Blue Tooth connection feature. Functions are ok, blue tooth rocks. I can not remember, but it might display differently than hard wired.

You can also play Pandora, etc via Blue Tooth connection.

This is true, I love how it resumes playing from the bluetooth connection when you re-enter your car. My Pioneer Avic head unit did not do this in my old car. This will just take some getting used to. The pros of the Nav (great bluetooth, easy nav, fantastic voice recognition) in the T4R definitely out weight the cons (poor iPod control) in my opinion (so far).

I once pushed the SOS button because, well..it was a button and how do you not push it? After about two seconds a nice girl's voice came over the speaker. She sounded cute so we chatted a bit and then said our goodbyes. I'm thinking about driving my truck into a tree or something just to talk to her again. With my luck the last voice I'll hear is a guy named Bruno asking if I need help.

Moral of the story, other than I really need a gf, is that if they put a button in front of a man it's your damn duty to push it to see what happens.
