Cleaning the blower fan write-up

Speaking of a filter...

Any creative way to incorporate a functionable cabin filter? Where's the fresh air intake?

My wife got a puff of dust in her face a week or so back that had me add this to the family mod list.

Guys my blower only runs on the “medium” and “high” setting. The”Low” position on the switch doesn’t seem to do anything. Would this be a blower issue or a switch issue?

Neither, it is the blower motor resistor... (assuming you have the lever / manual AC)

Found right behind the glove compartment, attached to the HVAC housing between the blower motor and the evaporator core.

Mine rattles and clunks quite badly in my 3rd gen... chances that just cleaning it will fix it, or does it sound like the fan itself is goosed?

Pull it and see what’s collected in the fan. It’s easy then you know.

I had a few acorns in mine; I thought the truck was going to explode. Like the man said above, pull it--it's a free fix.

Found this old thread helpful to replacing my fan. Based on my experience, do NOT get a cheap generic ebay replacement. The $40 one I got on ebay worked initially, but then fried my blower resistor. Got the resistor so hot it cracked into pieces. In the end, getting a new OEM blower (87103-35022) and replacing the resistor once again (replace both with OEM at the same time) did the trick. Not the cheapest route, but one that I know wont screw with the electrical system and fill my cabin with toxic resistor burning smells!

My fan is squeaking a lot. Is there a way to grease them or do they just have to be replaced?

Some posts in this thread talk about lubing without disassembly but not sure how successful it was. There isn’t a real obvious spot or port to even snake a tube in. I got a take off from a junk yard and while it looked it, it squealed like a pig…another reason I went new oem. $160 online from a variety of Toyota dealers.

When the oil impregnated bushings dry out. It’s done. Unless there is an oil wick you can re-oil.
