Dash Click/Rattle

I took everything apart again today. I now think maybe the issue is the windshield washer hose. There's a plastic protector on the hose to make sure the hose doesn't wear out on the frame. I insulated the Windshield washer hose with foam and electrical tape. The noise sounded a bit like the noise I was hearing.
I will try it out tomorrow morning to see if the noise is gone.

-Flip the nut cover off
-Remove the windshield wipers 12mm or 13mm
-Remove the clips that hold hold the plastic cowl driver and passenger side.
-Then start pulling the cowl.

Also getting that sound whenever I press the brakes. Kinda glad to hear others are experiencing it. Sounds like something loose came off directly under the passenger dash. Was going to stop by Toyota and have them take a look during the next maintenance checkup. Btw, it's not the cabin air filter. Took that thing apart and it still rattles!

sorry man. I appreciate your contributions to this thread.
Mine's been doing it since day one, I actually thought it was the cardboard temp plate taped to the windshield initially. Then it went through a period of silence, and then it comes and goes, and as you've noted-- it's worse in the cold.
At this point I'm wondering if it's the actual windshield, or one of the spacers at the bottom, as I've read somewhere else before. This is the longest I've had a windshield that didn't require replacement.... so any day now I can rule that out....
Mine is the bottom right windshield. tick tick tick tick.
The stereo actually has to be pretty loud to drown it out.
These days I don't want to have the stereo loud 100% of the time, and it's a GD racket.
[MENTION=141372]One4RGuy[/MENTION] - have you checked the plastic clips that hold the rubber splash guards (aprons) on in your wheel well? Mine rattled initially, until I fixed them up.

I want to keep this thread alive, as mine is for sure still present. Exactly as others have said. Tick Tick Tick. No matter the road smoothness, and 100% temperature sensitive. Anything below 55 degrees and it shows up. 60 and above and its completely gone. I also agree with the wet/after carwash seems less prevalent. I even have an aftermarket windshield (bought used and was on it) if that helps anyone..... Driving me nuts, Won't have time this week, but next week I am going to stop by my windshield guy and beg for help. As I too have given up. I promise, if I figure it out, i will post back.

I have had a random rattle that sounds like it's coming from behind the driver side AC vent. That or the wiper area, I could tell it was wind related. After our last road trip it was very prevalent and even the wife noticed...so it was time to find it. She hopped in the driver seat while I ran a leaf blower into the front end at various locations waiting for her to signal that she heard it. It wasn't until I hit the wheel well that I got the thumbs up. The plastic clips that hold the inner fender liner were loose. I put I tie wrap under them for now and the noise is gone. It is funny how sound travels because sitting in the truck you would swear it was right behind the dash.

I have had the rattle too and wrapping the windshield washer hose with electrical tape and rerouting it away from the hood has solved it. Wish I would have figured out this simple fix much sooner
THANK YOU!! I checked the plastic clips yesterday evening and was able to reproduce the sound I was hearing in the cabin by moving the clips up and down and around in a circle.
I have had this issue for a while but couldn't track it down. I even took it out to the local dealership and they could hear it but didn't know where the sound was coming from either. They thought it was around the hood area but I always felt like it was coming from the wheel well or behind the dash somewhere.
I had some 1/4" stainless steel washers at the house so I put the washer in between the clip and the flap so it wouldn't be touching the metal on the other side of the flap. With the washer on, the clip pulled up tight. On the 50 minute drive this morning there was no sound.
The sound only seemed to be coming from the top two clips. The 4runner seemed so quiet this morning without that squeaking noise. Thanks again for posting this!

I had it, and eliminated it. There's been a few posts about it here.
It's more of a rattling sound.

2016 with dash creaking near speakers
Hi all. I have 2016 where noise seems to come near the stereo of dash. Sounds kinda like wood floor creaking. 11 k miles. Had this issue 6k but stopped. New to forum . Starting to annoy me . I will look under hood

I had this ticking problem in my 2016 Limited (@10K). I had to get my oil changed at the dealership, told them about it. We took it over some washboard so the tech knew where it was coming from. He said that he knew what the problem was, and would fix it. Apparently, he cleaned dust away from the cowl and put insulation underneath. Fixed the ticking/tapping/creaking instantaneously.

I had exactly this. I put a zip tie in there too and voila! GONE. Thank god!
Dealer could not find it and tried to black every aftermarket part I had as the issue rather than actually looking around. They could hear it, but as inept as dealers always are...no fix.

Do you have an idea on which side they worked on? I really wonder want kind of insulation they put
