What model Rola basket is this that you purchased? I'm looking for my 2016 too and don't want to order the wrong size...
It's the rola vortex with the extension. I don't have a sunroof and it perfect it you like the long rack look.

I like the long rack look but not too long. I don't like them to reach the front of the window is all. This size is perfect. Did you get a wind deflector too with it?
I think the length with the extension is perfect. At least for what I want to use it for. And yes it came with a wind deflector.

When I brought it in to be wrapped, they stuck a (sticky) piece of vinyl on it, and the white letters lifted right off. The red wouldn't come off, but can't see it through the satin black vinyl.
How's the wind noise at highway speed? Any reduction in MPG due to additional wind resistance? I installed a tallwe one awhile back, different brand I can't recall. I could hear the wind noise on the freeway and my MPG dropped about 2 MPG. Took it off after a few months.
After scanning this thread, mine was Curt brand - taller and wind whistling sound while drving.

I use the low-profile kit. Started with the extension and have since removed it to gain the full sunroof back. I plasti-dipped the fairing.
The gobi ladder pairs well with it.
Without extension.No bad wind noise. Mpg? Negligible i think. I open the sunroof and theres not much wind back there.

Mine had a harmonic vibration between about 60-75 mph; the tubes vibrate, almost uncontrollably. I tested by filling the basket, vibration went away (which you could clearly feel with your hand on the headliner near the sunroof).
Once I installed Rotopax mounts to the rack, it killed the vibration. You could always thread a (preferably black) bungee cord in and out of the center of the rack tubes, as that also seems to calm the vibration quite a bit. Looks a bit ghetto, but you could claim it's there for a reason... lol
Not much wind noise from mine (no extension); a bit, but not enough to bug me (especially compared to the vibration).

I'm planning on running the extension in my Rola since I almost never use my sunroof. When I tilt up the back (vent?) the sunroof makes too much noise at anything over 30 mph.
In my X5, I could have the rear of the sunroof open at any speed and it was just a quiet rush of air. Over 30 mph in the 4R and it's like a jet is trying to land on my roof.

I have the Rola with extension and so far I like it. I read a lot about the racks and how rust used to be an issue but the new ones come with rubber sleeves that go over the joints to keep water out. I've had it on for a few months and no issues so far.
I went with the extension because IMO it looks a lot better on the 4runner and is almost the exact same length as the existing side rails. Plus, I bought the rack to haul stuff, and with the extension I can haul a lot more stuff.
I've noticed zero additional wind noise at speeds below 55. Anything above 55 I notice a bit more, especially on windy days. Not bad if you keep your sunroof visor closed.
Once it's all loaded up though, expect more noise and a decrease in mpg. How much depends on a lot of factors, but on a recent road trip with the rear and the rack loaded up I lost probably 1.5 mpg compared to normal driving conditions.
I'll probably leave mine on all summer for road trips, camping etc., but it's easy to take off so if mpg and noise are a concern for you, just take it off when you aren't using it.

Have you tried cracking the rear windows or the rear hatch? I always Crack open the rear one. Noise is much better

Noise isn't bad on mine. 04 Sport with no sunroof and using the Rola rack with extension. I didn't use the rubber sleeves as I just black RTV'd all the joints and hardware.

This is for a 3rd gen but should work with a 4th gen.
I used some 7/8 uni-strut, re-used the factory rail bolts, 8 M6x10 bolts, 8 washers, and 4 1/4" u-bolts. Search rola and my user name and you'll see more photos. It's bomber and cheap. A few other guys have used the same system and everyone is happy with it.

looks good! i am ordering mine on thursday (pay day!). did you use the low-pro mounting kit? i am trying to come up with a DIY kit because i don't feel like paying $80 for the armor tech. do you have any up-close photos of the mounting hardware? or have any dimensions for the angled plates?
my thoughts, gleaned from info in other threads... 2X2X¼" angle metal, attached to my '06 sport rack with 3/8" carriage bolts with nylon washers & lock nuts, but what would i use to attach the rack to these brackets? U-bolts?

The kit uses uses u-bolts. If you look on their website, there are detailed pictures. There are also close-ups of the mounting kit in this thread.
One nice thing is that the kit is reversible. Right now, I'm running mine in the low position. I could flip the angle brackets over and that would raise the rack about 2" higher. If I did that, I could use the vent option for my sunroof again. I think I'm going to leave it and just cut out the one bar that blocks the sunroof.
