My 2c.
Intuitively, this seems like a good spot.
But, it is a bad spot. If there is a fire under the hood you will need to open the hood and reach for the extinguisher amidst the flames and smoke.
Ideally the extinguisher will be readily at hand, not stored in a compartment which requires pulling a remote release, then running to unlatch and open, then releasing from its holder.

I was suggesting this in addition to my 2lb that mounts on my rear tire rack. I have my hood open a great deal and thought it would be a handy place to have it in case of some sort of fire broke out while the hood is open My goto would be the 2lb, unles I was working on the 4Runner

I looked at an ABC extinguisher today for the temperature rating. -50F to 120F, so under the hood is not a good spot for that reason alone.

We had to throw a customer's brand new Buckeye extinguisher in the trash today after showing him the bad weld in the cylinder that kept it from holding a charge.
It's a piece of life safety equipment folks. You may never have to use it, but if you do, you'll be glad you paid a few more dollars and got a quality extinguisher instead of a shiny red doorstop.

What makes the bumpers blow off?

It's an older vehicle that has a "bumper shock" which is basically a dampener for older vehicles to absorb impact damage. I'm guessing the fire heated the dampener to such an extend the gas/fluid charge expanded/boiled and basically shot the bumper off.

[MENTION=96877]T4Rfirefighter[/MENTION] I Knew Metal Had to better than Plastic for the controls, just about common sense in most cases, but I didn't know brand had so much to do with it. My current Fire extinguisher I've been carrying with me for a year is a "Strike First" ABC Dry Powder 5lb'er. It has metal controls and the weld on the bottom is smooth like dimes laid over, like a weld should be as far as I know. Any good or should I start looking for a Amerex like my work has?
Here it is and where I keep it. 5lb Extinguisher. I keep it behind the drivers door because it fits there well and isn't in the way and is VERY quick to get too. Only down side is you must open the back door to get at it.
Tucks up nice and tight to the door but doesn't touch, even did some pretty moderate wheeling and it never moved.
Do you have to remove it to fold the seats down?
At first glance, I'm thinking the answer is "no"...

Nope, It can live there with the seats folded up, they kind of fold in front of and over it though, you would need to open the door from outside to access it. You can pull it out from the passengers seated position but not when the seat is folded down.

One more question: How is the mount bolted to the floor? I felt around in the same area on my rig and I find one "solid" area that feels like metal, and the rest is just flooring material.

Ha-ha! It isn't mounted. It just sets in place somewhat snugly, it has never moved. While some may frown on that it cannot fly up due to the seat being over it and the door blocking it. I have never had it slide forward either, neither from braking for idiots on I4 or while I was wheeling doing some descents that raised my pucker factor to new heights. I'm pretty sure it would even stay put in a roll over but hopefully I never find out.

Old Post but great info. Just added two 5lb Amerex to my 4Runner.
Worked on my Roll Bar Options a bit today. Two new 5lbs Amerex Bottles mounted on my Roll Bar.
Just two little brackets 3" long to use original mounting holes in the Roll Bar.
Will need to paint my adaptor plates and maybe shave the lower bolt so they won't rub on the bottle.
