I made some rear bump stops. what do you think?

Hello my friends,

I am getting a couple of messages in regards to the correct rear bump stops. Everyone that purchased a set of my beta bump stops will be receiving the 5.25" that is intended for lifts of 2"+. I have become fairly familiar with everyone's rigs prior to my sale so don't worry everyone is good.

There is one exception to this and that is our good friend [MENTION=148218]JZiggy[/MENTION]. His truck is a mostly stock height 99. I made the 3.5" version of my bump stop to fit Ziggy's truck. Once he sends me feedback the 3.5" will be offered for anyone from stock height to lifts up to 2".

I have also received everyone's Pay-pal payment. thank you all for the quick payment.

I have a quick update for the Front Bump Stops.

Absolute Failure...

While out testing I was going across a long set of whoops. hit after hit I hear Fart, Fart, Fart... So I get out to see whats going on (did anything slip out???). I don't see anything loose and nothing dragging so I jump back in and keep going. Fart, Fart again! Come to find out my front bump stops are contacting my frame at the perfect angle to trap air. then with a bit more compression a fart is born...
It sounds bad. envision a truck sized woopy cushion.

So I need to re-design the bump stop so it cant trap air.

Other than the hideous sounds coming from my truck it certainly absorbs the rough stuff better.

I have the rear bump stops built for you guys that ordered a set from me. Here is a pic of them complete.

Unfortunately, My stupid mounting hardware ended up being a special order from my local Copper State. So I'm a late shipper. :wtf:

So everyone's order will be shipping out this coming Tuesday 5/15. :sorry:

I was thinking about a simple vent, then I started over thinking and talked myself out of it because I was concerned the vent may get closed off itself under all the compression. Its crazy how much the rubber collapses on itself when the wheel is stuffed.

So I made a new design that has a large notch out of the top. So no more problems... Hopefully.

I have my new prototype printing as I type. Ill post pics of the new shape in a couple days.

The rear bump stops are great.

I have everyone's Bump Stops shipped out!! :banana:

Here is a pic of the latest version of my 3.5" and 5.25" rear bump stops.

Each version has a cast in place 1.5" washer to prevent separation and are each made using two different durometer rubbers.

Pretty sure I'm the only dual durometer rubber bump stop on the block... I know at least on my block for sure! :bump:

No hard contact/bump like when using the factory bump stops with spacers.

I couldnt agree more about [MENTION=28464]eimkeith[/MENTION]. I was fortunate to have jumped on board with his PCK's really early on(I think I was in the first batch). It was amazing watching him work his magic in the design. Very talented Man.

Its really cool being able to benefit from other members knowledge base. In the last couple weeks I even picked up a R&D engineer.
Its great partnering up and sharing our thoughts with others that know the language. My girlfriend can only stand so much of my geek...

Im on my 5th version now. I am so close. I'm just tweaking the height of my bump stop to be as minimal as possible.

I want to eliminate the hard bottom out only. I don't want my bump stop to mess with our shocks dampening in any way until the nitty gritty end of the upstroke.

My latest bump stop design will contact the frame and compress 3/4" before the factory bump stop begins to contact. Once the factory bump stop makes contact it will continue to compress an additional 1/2" until "ultimate bottom out".

What are your guys thoughts on this?

This post is to give proper credit to [MENTION=146407]Plastics guy[/MENTION]. When this thing started started less then a month ago I was really interested to get some proper front bumps made. He seemed like a guy that could handle that.

I decided to get the rear bumps to help test them if needed and just to support a forum member in general. After I signed on for the first trial run I was PM'd by a few people that asked if I thought it was legit. I'm a realist and have seen many people fall for scams so I understood the concern.

I wasn't concerned simply because of the amount of time he took to post here, both of prototypes and actual shots of his rig stuffed. Nobody trying to make a quick buck is going to go to that trouble. No one trying to make a quick buck is gonna have the skills to even make them. So fear not, suspicious folk, they're the real deal and they rock.

I just received the rear bumps in the mail today. They where delivered in 2 days. They where packed very well in the perfect size box. Not that you can really hurt bump stops but it shows some pride in work to make sure even something as simple as boxing is done right.

In the package where 2 bumps, 2 washers, 2 bolts, and a one use package of blue loctite. The loctite was another really nice touch.

Here's a side by side of my custom mount for my old Daystar bumps. You'll notice my old set-up is about an inch longer then the new bumps. The Daystars are really soft for the first 1/2 of travel so I needed that to help with cushioning coming off rocks hard. The new bumps are noticeably firmer.

The install was about as simple as it gets. It honestly took me more time to get my old bumps off then get the new ones on. Here's the bumps installed on my rig.

I'm still in the middle of my damn diff break in period so it'll be another week before I can really beat the shit out of these things. I'm confident that they will be an upgrade to my old bumps. I'll keep this updated after they get some hard wheeling under them. Initial impressions are hugely positive though.

How much force are the bumps absorbing before they meet the factory stop at 3/4"? If there fairly soft for the compression stroke it should work very well. That 3/4" will slow the momentum enough to allow contact to the factory bump. Then both in tandem should keep the harsh bottoms a little less harsh.

It's really gonna come down to how it feels. That's gonna be different for different applications. Something that feels great for high speed desert bombing may not feel as great for big rock drops. Find the happy medium and go with it. Any thing is better then my factory bumps at this point. I've taken hits that I thought for sure would blow the damn shock. lol

Sounds good to me. I had the superbumps from wheelers and got rid of them because I didn't like how they were always "engaged" due to their height. At ride height my rig was always sitting on them, keeping them slightly compressed. Shorter, but as/more effective, would be appealing to me.

Plastics guy and I went out and tested the snot out of these bumpstops, trying to break them. I can say they are super duper heavy duty. Also plastics guy is an awesome person, I'm glad I got to go out wheeling with him. This dude is about his business.

The other side is stuffed hard, at one point the shock was the only thing limiting travel. I hope he posts his shots of the bumpstops at full flex.
