Yes, but supposedly it washes off much easier than sodium chloride, so less likely to rot vehicles.

Ok so the salt in a sensor theory is merely a pathetic attempt by the dealer to explain what they can't figure out.
My money is on the charging system, I.e. Battery or alt.
When I was a Toyota tech we had an Avalon come in with the complaint that after the car was shut off, the HVAC would click and buzz. I checked and yes indeed it did. I must have spent 30+ hours on this thing including ripping the dash apart and never found a single thing wrong. Turns out I found that the battery was weak (never failed to start the car though) and because of that it would cause the HVAC electronics to go wild when the motor was shut off.

I just had the same thing happen to me. Took it to the dealer and they claimed extensive time figuring out the issue. At the end, they blamed it on my remote start and tried sticking me with a $500 bill. I fought it and didn't have to pay but the problem still lies within. Lights came back on yesterday but not on today. I should mention that I changed my battery to a optima yellow top so battery is good. POSSIBLY WEAK ALTERNATOR? Voltage gauge in truck drops slightly when I step on brakes. Going to strap the winch to a tree later and put some real load on it to see what happens.

What happen to you and the OP happened to me last week. It was my alternator. Replaced under warranty. Would of been 850+ tax. Best of luck to ya.

Well I'm at the second dealership and they're saying the same thing about the remote starter cause some kind of issue but the remote start is disconnected and the lights are still flashing. I asked them to check the alternator and they said its fine but could it appear to be ok if they only did a load test? Do they need to bench test it to find out if there is maybe a bad diode? Truck runs fine, doesn't shut off while I'm driving or anything. They're also saying that they can't read the computer when they plug into it. HELP!!!

sounds like they possibly read your history and saw what the dealership before noted it as being.

Well that just blows! They're investigating wiring and of course I got threatened with their pricing. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Test voltage yourself. If it's a power issue, on a vehicle that age it's most likely a ground connection, either from the battery, the engine, or the harness somewhere. Not hard to trace, but tedious.

I have no idea, Volkswagen stamped my journeyman papers, and it was a great way to pay for college. So that's how I would deal with any vehicle with the symptoms you describe. The modern CAN-bus dashboards are more sensitive to power quality and grounding issues than ever.

Same Problem with 2015
I know this is an old thread, but new problem.
1 month ago I was driving down the road at 70 mph and my tach and speedo dropped to zero then back up several times until it went back to normal. However, at the same time all my instrument warning lights came on. Most of the lights disappeared but the ABS and another light stayed on. All other things on the car didn't reset like the instrument cluster; engine still running. Once the engine is turned off and turned back on again, all the warning lights reset and turn off.
It happened another time last week and I went straight to the dealership with the ABS light and the other light still on. I do have an aftermarket remote start installed. They mentioned it, but didn't blame it. They couldn't figure it out, so I have the car again with a likely future issue.
Please respond if you had this issue and it was solved.
