LED Dash lights FAQs

Added LEDs from superbrightleds.com came out great other than the left side of the cluster. Anyone have an idea of what the cause would be?

Since no one responded, one or more of your gauge cluster lights is reversed, meaning you need to take it out, rotate it 180* and put it back in. Then it'll be all lit up. I suggest plugging it all back in but not bothering with putting the screws and all back in until you test it to make sure.

I was shipped a bad LED when I did my swap.

Minor points

Just did this today to my car. The instructions were mostly spot on for my 98 Limited, thanks.

Just a few points for anyone doing this with a '98. The HVAC facing has to come off before you can pull off the center console. There are some screws in there that need to be undone, just pull off the knobs and lever knobs, pull out the AC button housing, and pry the facing off. Then unscrew.

Second, the map lights are the same DE3175 as the dome lights.

Third, the 74s (at least the ones I got) have a very definite polarity. There's no way to tell visually which is the right way to put them in, I just stuck them in then turned the key to see if they lit up.

Fourth, when you're testing the gauge lights, make sure the dimmer is plugged in, otherwise they won't turn on.

Did the entire job, installed a new head unit, plus a run to CVS for electrical tape, in about 3 hours, with troubleshooting and screwups. Totally worth it. Happy LEDing!

This write up was perfect, i had to replace a long broken antenna, and half of my dash lights were out, so why not upgrade to LEDs right?

So, what are the bulb types for the bulbs across the bottom? The park reverse neutral and all that. Are they all 74?

I have everything apart to swap out all of the bulbs, but before I put it back together I wanted to test everything & nothing is working.

Even the headlights won’t come on.

Does a particular cable have to be plugged in for any of the lights to work?

The dash light dimmer knob pulls off to expose a slim nut that holds the potentiometer, just loosen and remove that with a wrench or pliers. There should be a disconnect for the locker switch. With these off, the section of dash trim should pry off, assuming all other 10mm/philips bolts are removed. If you simply disconnect the dimmer knob switch in the back, you won't be able to test your led's at it's part of the same circuit.

are the bulbs reverse polarity? meaning the shield is positive while the bottom center terminal is negative?

Before I order, can someone confirm this is all good for my 2001 Limited?

OR do I only need 2 x Neo Wedge B (10mm/4mm) --> NEO4BHP 4mm since I have an auto A/C unit?

Thank you for this write-up! Most of my lights are burned out and it was a bit of a pain trying to find the correct bulbs.

They're the right ones but you only need 2 of the 4mm. Also, the 3mm from superbrightleds are a little loose in the socket so you may have to lift up the wire tails on the base for better contact against the circuit board traces. Then epoxy them in

Can you suggest better 3mm that you used from maybe other sites that don't require such adjusting?

I haven't ordered yet...just waiting on some more feedback from anyone that did these recently.
