Luckily for me I opened the bottles of oil as he poured them in. Unless he somehow filled and sealed mobile 1 bottles with old car jiz, I think I am in the clear. But last time I do that seriously im going to the dealer. Right now I think I have 0w21 oil thanks to my mech

I'm at that point too, and I'm not old. My mechanic charges $10 if I bring my oil and filters. At that price, it's not even worth my time to go through all that crap when I could just hand him the keys and supplies and go have a slice of pizza and a pepsi at the pizza shop next door.

My 4runner came with free oil changes for I think the first 2 years. Through Toyota, not the dealership. So I'll continue to use the free oil changes until then. I have always changed all our break pads on our vehicles and thought that was a notch up on manlyness over oil changes. So I figured I was safe paying for the oil changes and still maintaining my manlyness. Although seeing what the people are doing to their rigs on this forum makes me feel a little whimpy.

Hint, they take the old stuff back no problems.
I did have gallons accumulated over the years. I just waited until my city had a hazardous waste roundup and put all the containers in an old 24 gallon tote. I drove up and they pulled out the whole thing and that was that.
I take it to AutoZone down the street from my house with no charge.

I don't trust anyone in my neck of the woods to touch my 4Runner. First of all, the closest dealer is 2 hours away. I let my oil drain for a couple of hours and don't believe in these quick lubes that are local.
I do everything maintenance related (even my own windshields) other than wheel alignments. It's part of the fun.
Have to agree though, if I could muster up the guts to trust someone I would. Time can be better spent doing other things. Oil changes are not the most exciting. Over this way, any mechanic would be offended if I brought my own oil for them to put in. It's hitting their pocket book. I can't believe that the one poster above mentioned his will do it for $10 - must be a good friend.

Scared to death of the second oil change
First of all I drive less than 6,000 miles a year so I get my oil changed annually. 1. Had a Ridgeline; while waiting in the showroom for the second oil change I traded and bought another Ridgeline (it had all the options). 2. Second oil change on the new Ridgeline I traded and bought an Avalon. 3. Second oil change on the Avalon I traded and bought my 2014 Limited. My second oil change on the Limited is coming due in May. I'm Sh!ting bricks.

I never got an oil change done at the dealer with any of my cars. I simply do not trust them. I saw way to many rounded oil drain bolts, mechanics do not clean and wipe down any spilled oil, etc when I worked on friends cars.. When I had my Lexus, first oil change was free, did I go to the dealer for the free oil change?? Nope!
This did not make me get less money for my cars when I sold them. Matter of fact when I say I work on my OWN car and tell the buyers I use OEM quality parts people are actually glad and do not see a negative to this. Because I can tell them in detail what I changed and how I changed, etc..

Some people like a car fax that's full of maintenance records. Just because I let someone else touch my car doesn't mean I don't look to make sure they did it right. I fly helicopters with some of the most well trained technicians in the world and I still check their work. But I appreciate your point. I take pride in having well maintained vehicles as well, even if people make fun of me for my runner being clean.

Just to add fuel to the flames of this thread.....Toyota 0W20 is one of the best oils on the market. Changing your oil "out" to something like Mobile 1 will likely cause your motor to detonate 50 to 100 miles earlier than Toyota.
Not sure how long this will show but if it was done at a dealer, it shows on the Carfax
