If time is a concern, it takes a lot longer to tap and die new threads than to change the oil.

I have given "my" dealer the benefit of the doubt more times than I care to admit. I have given them more chances to do it right than they even deserve. Guess what? they keep f'king it up.
The final straw, I took my truck in for its final Toyota Care service, it had 15k and change on it BUT it had been 1 year, I specifically told them to do the 1 year service, that includes an oil change. What didn't they do? Yep change the oil.
They are all about turn and burn robot style. If you condition matches the norm you will get the average service that you are paying for. Anything else, watch them f'kers like a hawk.

Mine hasn't seen the dealer since it left- except the parts department for filters and wiper blades. Been ALL GOOD.
Now, approaching 100k miles I'm having anxiety about possibly taking it in to get the tranny fluid changed. I don't like messing with transmissions- they are like black-magic-voodoo boxes to me, lol.
Don't know what I'm going to do- maybe take it to Scott, Hightech...
Don't do it! Based on your oil change thread, think of how great an Antman trans fluid drain and fill DIY would be

Honestly, I changed the tranny fluid in my '02 @ 100K miles and the stuff looked like new. No burnt smell, nothing. I am convinced it was a waste of time. ;-)

Hmmm. Okay. Well, I can show a potential buyer the spreadsheet of every single thing that has been done to my vehicles since new, receipts and by how meticulous I am about my vehicles I think that means a lot more to a buyer than some printout showing that somebody dumped the car off at the dealer every X miles and that 10 different hands have wrenched on it.
I'm not knocking people who don't want to change their own oil. It's not that big of a deal to me and gives me a chance to inspect everything with MY eyes.
The last time a vehicle I own was in to a dealership was my M3 for a recall on the clutch pivot. Car was spotless and never parked in a parking lot. Told the service writer DO NOT do the "complimentary" car wash.
Go to pick it up and there it sat in the sun, wet and water spotting.
So I get it home and when evening comes go to wash it and fix their mess and what do I find? A nice big door ding in the passenger door.
Called the dealer (pissed but kept my composure) and told him about the ding and he said "How can you prove it happened here? People say that all the time". Never again. Cost me over $100 to have dent doctor fix it.
So.... If I ever have to take a vehicle into a dealer ever again the service writer is going to know I am a prick about my cars and note any damage on it on the ticket, and if they damage it, they are going to fix it. Correctly.
Sorry, don't need that type of aggravation for something as simple as an oil change.
Also, go to your dealer and just watch outside the service bays how the lot boys drive the vehicles. They couldn't care less about your vehicle.

Wish I could say the same for my '08 Highlander (which also uses WS) at 85k miles. It was black. Not that that necessarily means it was all that bad, but I was glad to get ~4.5 fresh quarts in there.

Apart from some repairs on my last 4runner and the "Toyota Care" on this one, I am going back to doing maintenance myself. Unless it is going in for a warranty/something major/recall I am (knock-on-wood) done with them.

100k has become the "Unofficial, Official" WS ATF service interval over the years. You will be fine getting it done at that mileage.

I mean a "Flush" in the sense of using the Automatic Transmission fluid pump to push fluid is fine; but really it's still gonna have fluid mixture/contamination just like drain and filling multiple times (perhaps a bit less than drain and filling). Both methods work fine, the main purpose is to get old fluid out, debris out, and new fluid & additive (in the fluid) circulating in the system. The critical part being that you set the fluid level properly after either method.

Most people are under the impression dealerships have "all" certified techs. This is absolutely false!
I have several friends who worked in most dealerships around our city and most employee unskilled techs too. We had a large GM dealer here who only had 1 certified tech and the rest wannabe's. In fact one barely could read. Closed in bailout, good thing..
I've never met a tech yet that would allow every tech in the shop he worked at do major repair work on "his own car" for him. Ever ask one that?...lol
Oil changing is where most certified or not start out too btw so beginners regardless. Some great, some not so great, just saying... Pep Boys tightened our 95 Camry's lug nuts to 210lb instead of 80lbs and 13 of the studs broke when wheels were removed (they paid all new lug/nuts). I was really lucky my mags held up as I like them and no longer made (Go Motegi) still roll'n them..Sears under torqued our Infiniti later on and damn near lost front right wheel before getting home even.
Fair Warning!! Always always "ALWAYS"check torque/air pressure after any shop removes wheels/tires!! Some employee the braindead..:fear:
I have some neighbors and friends who learned the hard way. One had basically a hand tightened drain plug and was lucky to see the 8" round puddle before it fell out (I tightend).
2 friends have had stipped drain plugs from shops, one I was able to install the next step up plug I got at O'reilly's. One friend sold his thunderbird with 70k miles years ago because a quick lube stripped his drain plug. The aluminum pan needed replaced and wasn't cheap to repair. Now many pans are even plastic..Yep!! :sad:
Whenever I'm able to move around enough, I've always changed my own oil in every minibike,motorcycle,tiller,mowers and vehicle I've ever owned since I was 10 years old and if I didn't, you can bet your sweet arse's I checked their work. Lil money, no father you learn to do shit on your own young.
NO WAY IN HELL I'LL LET ANYONE ELSE CHANGE MY OIL UNLESS I'M DOWN & OUT FOR THE COUNT!!

on oil changes this is what I have learned when others do it. they always break something by accident or just to make more profit ?
family member toyota dealership does the oil service tire rotations . lugs not all torqued [some loose] . oil all over the intake manifold ,oil not full. did not top off the coolant and the washer fluid.
another family member oil filter leaking [loose] covers not properly secured had to find a metric bolt that fell off.
friend got oil change at his local gas station . before his trip to atlantic city 220 miles away .. half way there the check engine light comes on he adds 4 qts of oil. gets back home engine runs but not good goes to the guy he always has this oil change done the guy says prove it!
so if your not up to doing this work at least check that they did the job properly before driving away.
also women are always screwed all the time .. not good for females to bring the vehicle down to be serviced at least not the toyota dealership in my town. IRA........

I only take mine to the dealer or my brother (works in a repair shop). For the latter, I go on a weekend and we usually knock out a few things all together to make the 2 hour drive worth it (for example, next month I'll have him change oil/rotate tires/install CB setup).
I don't think all this bro-ing out over doing your own oil changes doesn't add inches to your hang-down, but I'm not a doc.
