My truck was damaged beyond repair…should I buy it back?

Hi all. My 2011 AWD limited was taken out by a guy pulling an illegal u-turn. He hit me in the right front wheel and bent the frame. It still runs perfectly and can limp around under its own power. I’ve pulled off my sliders and skid plates, and I’m trying to decide if I should buy the car back to part it out. Don’t know how much they’ll charge me yet.

What’s the going rate for a motor and trans for one of these things? 161,000 miles synthetic oil and meticulously maintained, including regular tranny fluid drains/refills. Zero leaks. Very nice black leather interior. Located in central NC.

Reman engine with warranty is $5K. Seen takeouts w/ 6K miles that they were asking $9K for, but that is way too much.

My guess is you’d see $2K to $3K for the engine and $1K for the trans.

It's all about how much they will want for it. There is a lot of value in a T4R part out if you are willing to invest the time.

Final results:

Insurance agreed to pay $19K for my total loss. I was able to pull off my roof bars, skids, sliders, and swap out my wheels and tires for an old set of bald tires and 4th gen wheels before releasing the truck.

I inquired about the salvage value and they wanted 8.5K! Hard pass. I can’t imagine that they’ll get that much parting it out but I was definitely not interested. I suppose a “value” that high means that it could end up on the road again.
