Nexus 7 Tablet ... Who has one? (+ review)

I recently bought my GF a Nexus 7 tablet for $199 and was really surprised by how awesome it is.

I have a Galaxy-Nexus phone running 4.1.2 and love it a lot. I thought I would never want a tablet though but I got it for her anyways.

This thing is really great. I am surprised by how nice of form factor it is for casual surfing. Especially for only $199.

If I hadn't recently purchased a MBA 13" just a few months ago, I would probably get the Nexus-10.

What do you think? Have you tried one?

I know my post sounds like an ad LOL but its not. I just wish more people could try one of these.

They are only $199 (vs $329 for iPad mini) and have great reviews. Also they come with PURE Google and no carrier installed BS applications.

I've got one - as a matter of fact, I'm one of those who actually got one before I was supposed to. Tee hee.

I actually sold my iPad 2 32Gb for the same size Nexus 7 - cost me $249. Why? Simple. I use my tablet for the following things:

- basic document/note taking
- e-books
- Angry Birds (LOL)
- email
- music

Honestly, using a 10" 32Gb iPad 2 for that is like bringing a two-handed sword to a knife fight. I absolutely LOVE my Nexus 7. Have already updated it to Android 4.2.

Agreed with above. The N7 is pretty nice. My brother has one and i used it a few times...quite impress with it. And a bargain too! And with it being a Nexus, you are assured of software support for next year or two (at least). It is definitely a bargain, compared with iPad mini.

Now, b/w Nexus 10 and iPad 4, i will go with iPad 4.

I bought 2 of these, one for each kid, for Christmas. I've played with them here at work since buying them and they are freaking awesome! There is no comparison really with the iPad Mini, especially since they basically stuck the internals of a 3 year old iPad into it and didn't even give it the retina display.

I currently have an iPad 3 or New or whatever, but I'm selling it and getting the Nexus 10. The internals and the screen obliterate the iPad 4 and I flat out can't stand iOS.

I ordered the Nexus 10 from Staples, but they aren't back in stock yet and my estimated ship date is 12/24, which sucks.

If anyone wants an iPad 3, let me know, it's going to be up for sale shortly.

As I have said in other threads, I have one and love it!

I got it around the end of summer, brand new 32gb version with a nice leather case that can fold into a stand all for $180 on craigslist.

I use it for:
-textbooks (have e-book verisons of soo many textbooks on there..)
-Email/forums. The stock browser (chrome) kind of sucks though. I use the firefox app.
-Netflix
-Games of course (IMO 7" screens are the best for games!)
-Passenger entertainment for road trips. I have TONS of movies saved on it and my girlfriend likes to plug into the AUX radio port and watch movies with the truck speakers.


All for $180 cant argue with that!

The only lag reported is when it is being completely over tasked on initial hands on tests.

The screen does not overwhelm the processor in day to day use that most people will be using it for. Unlike my iPad, who struggles to load a data heavy webpage without crashing and scrolls like an old Packard Bell.

You need to spend more time with Nexus 10. Benchmarks of GPU of iPad 4 blows the Nexus 10 out of the water...by a huge margin! I can post raw data to prove my point if you want.

Go ahead, post away. I'm posting from my iPad now and honestly I hate the thing. Total waste of $500. My 7 year old likes it I guess. The lack of multitasking on this thing is a joke.

It's clear that Apple has completely fallen way behind in keeping up with the competition in both the smartphone and tablet race right now. To go from an 80%+ market share to 50% speaks volumes in the tablet race. Not to mention the GS3 was the top selling phone last quarter.

It's clear they are in panic mode after seeing the iPad mini and now rumors of another iPhone 5S being released early next year.

Back on topic, the Nexus 7 is a crazy nice tablet, especially with the $200 & $250 price tag. There is no comparison at all with the mini sitting at $330!

I love all of my Nexus devices. Both my N7 as well as my G-Nex are rooted and running 4.2 Jelly Bean. Really thinking about picking up the Nexus 4 and trying it out on a prepaid line since i can pick it up with no contract. Best devices on the market hands down, even more so if you are aware that benchmarks dont mean **** and are easily manipulated for a variety of results.

I understand if you don't like iOS. Fine. Everyone has opinions. But, to think that iPad internals are inferior is flawed. You can read all about it here: AnandTech - Google Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 Performance Preview

GPU is where iPad is truly superior. (Please note where the iPhone 5 is also quite impressive over every other Android phone, bar none.)

As for browser, Safari on Apple devices is far superior to Chrome on Android. It is faster & smoother. In fact, Chrome on the best of Android phone is about as good as iPhone 4S.

So, i am not sure why you're having trouble with webpages on your iPad 3. There is something else wrong or you have a lemon in the iPad 3. Take it to your local Apple store and show them the problem. They either fix it for you, give you a new iPad, or tell you that it is the webpage problem not iPad.

GS3 being the top seller? Samsung outselling Apple iPhones? I am sure that you knows this, but iPhone 5 only went on sale at the end of September, which is the last month of Q3 stats. Think of it this way...for 2.75 months, Samsung phones (**) ONLY managed to outsell Apple iPhone 4S/4/3GS two to one. And by Q3, iPhone 4S/4/3GS were already long on the tooth and most folks were waiting for iPhone 5. Remember, Apple don't sell many phones...just iPhones 3GS, 4, 4S, and now 5. And with iPhone 5, that last week of September, Apple ran out of supply.

** = ALL Samsung phones, not just GS3; remmeber, Samsung sells cheap flip phones, cheap smartphones, Google phones, Galaxy Notes, etc..

Android sells all sort of phones, from cheapos to top end phones. Apple only sell one line of phone. I sure hope that Android sells more phones...Apple will never beat Android for world volume due to that. But does that mean that Apple products are inferior? No. Does a Camry outsell Lexus ES350? Yes, but does that mean that Camry is better quality?

Lastly, note that iPhone 5 is still top dog in processor, despite Android's latest (& near future) attempts. iPhone 5 display is still regarded as a rare breed...perfect calibration and clarity...something that even the latest Android huge screens and super resolution can't match. And lets not forget the camera...iPhone 5 camera is regarded as the best cameraphone in the world by most tech reviewers. (Nokia 920 rivals it.)

Geez, dude, learn to know the difference b/w specs and real-life measurements! A Snapdragon S4 PRO runs at 1.5 GHz. THAT is a spec. When your background freezes or lags while playing Asphalt 7 on Nexus 10, THAT is not a spec, but real life issue where the processor can't match the resolution of the display. When benchmarks clearly show something not right with the integration b/w processor and display, THAT is a measurement, not a spec. Get it?

I know that you're trying your damnest to get back at me for embarrassing you in the other thread...but you suck at it IMHO. Just move on...and remember, this is the net...don't take things personally. :hatsoff:

I really miss the days when the station wagon was popular. Consumer Reports really liked those.

As to the Nexus 10, all I know is, NOT being a gamer, Google Earth is impressive in its rendering by the 10. Incredible fast and smooth zoom. Y-tube videos, HD play just fine. If it was any faster who would know how to use it on a tablet? Wait, some PC magazine would no doubt find something to fill space with.
