Overheating Challenges - Please Help

And you still want to take your rig on a desert safari? Anything above 50% I'd still be worried. Read up on how to remove trapped air from cooling system.
 
I'm learning so much. You guys are awesome! Should I post that code in a new thread? I'm at a loss of why it just now showed up. My reader said it was the ETC I think (would have to look again). That's different than what Bad Obsession posted so I'm guessing my reader is giving me the generic response? Is bank 2 sensor 1 passenger side before the CAT?

Personally I think before starting a new thread you should do a proper search using the forum search or an advanced type of search.

Apparently I am the only person in the world who has ever gotten a P0155. Search it yourself.......lol. I'm just that lucky! I still think it may have something to do with my work. It only showed up after I took everything apart for the compression test, unless that is just when it (whatever "it" is) decided to poop out..

You ARE the only person in the world who has ever gotten a P0155 (Bank 2, Sensor 1, O2 Heater Circuit) on a 3G 4Runner.

Our 4Runners have a single exhaust, therefore we DON'T HAVE any Bank 2 exhaust sensors. For this reason, it is not even listed in the FSM. I have NO IDEA how this is possible--missing pixels in display, not a 3G truck, idk...).

It is not an issue of generic/Toyota codes, as the P0xxx codes are all generic. The Toyota-specific codes are P1xxx and higher.

Hmmmm. Well it's a 1997. I have one exhaust. I did replace the O2 sensor with a Bosch sensor. I can't get the original sensor out as the bolts are completely rounded off. I ended up using a spark plug fowler, cut the end off, drilled a hole in the pipe and welded it in, giving me a place to screw in an 02 Sensor from another Toyota 3.4

I'm guessing that is what it is. Although that was 4 days before the CEL came on.......
 
Apparently I need some Ginkgo Bilbao or some other for of memory aid, lol. The code is P0115. I'll have to do the search when I get on my Mac later. Doesn't seem to work on my phone.

Seems overheating is completely resolved (which I am VERY thankful for). Got up to 106F yesterday here in TX and from city to highway temp gauge only went over 50% once. Most of the time hung out between 40-50%. The one time it did go over, I had left truck idling in the sun w/ AC on for nearly 30 min. When I took off, it climed up to about 65% then went right back down. Guessing it just built up some heat? Now to just figure out this "P0115".
 
I think Po115 is for the engine coolant temp sensor. It may be reading out of range. $40~$50 at the dealership.

Get rid of the Bosch O2 sensor. As before, Denso or OEM. That in fact may be contributing to the PO115. I'd start with replacing this first.

Your fan clutch may be on the way out as well.
 
the bosch o2 sensor is the culprit for your CEL, and yeah i think you have a bad fan clutch too. i have a lot of extra weight on my truck, bumper with winch, sliders, full skids, then with my lights on my bumper and winch controller all in front of my grille, my airflow in to the rad is limited, but i only see my temp gauge around 40% on hot days (90+) so id look at getting a new fan clutch. you might want to search through the classifieds here, and see if you can find a used one for sale from someone who is parting out 4runner.

Whoops! That would have been my fault. I should have caught that when I searched the code. Sorry 'bout that OP. Didn't mean to cause confusion.

Josh- with the engine warmed up and turned off, try to spin the fan by hand: grab a fan blade and try to spin it. It should spin less than 1/4 turn or so before coming to a stop after you release the fan blade. If it spins more than that it's bad.

As far as your CEL- I think it's the O2 sensor you're using. Maybe someone else will chime in soon to give you a 2nd opinion.

yes its your o2 sensor, DO NOT use anything but a denso for the o2, i honestly would not even use a NGK unless you are force induction or have played with AF ratios. the only think bosch i would use on our trucks is a wiper blade. bosch is crap for these trucks

I posted over in my new thread with all the info but you guys have been great.........So does anyone know where the ECT is located? Again you can read my other post for paragraphs of fun!
