SO I am in the process of purchasing a BeSPoke head unit the one with all the buttons on the left side from a salvage yard in ohio. after doing some research all the difference i see is in stead of the top extension connector (looking at the previous posts pictures the one with the red circle) is rca plugs, i believe it should work out.

First of all, GREAT JOB on the pics and PDF (pinouts) of the unit. This will help greatly to connect other stuff (VSS/ParkingBrakeSensor/Reverse).

To answer your question (to the best of my ability), you will need a Scosche/Metra/whatever bypass wiring harness. It appears as though the head unit of the scion has it's own amp. Having the JBL is worthless, so the connections to the speakers will have to be "bypassed". BUT, this hasn't been confirmed by anybody yet. I'm sure other owners who have JBL have had their HU replaced by aftermarket HUs and HAD to have the JBL bypass/adapter harness.

JBL pinout and wiring info

After doing some me research on how to do this upgrade on 4runnes with JBL system I came across this JBL wiring info and pinout

This will hopefully help with trying to figure out how this could work. Looking at the adapters that bypass the JBL amp (Scosche/Metra/PAC TATO) it seems like they all have 4 RCA connectors (Front Left, Front Right, Rear Left, Rear Right) that come from the adapter module and plug into the "aftermarket" radio. Since the Scion head unit does not have RCA ports on the back how would one of these adapters work?

You could do a line level converter, that converts speaker level output to RCA's.

But that goes back to the cobbled thing. Why convert something from analog to digital just to go back to analog? The sound quality can only be as good as your weakest link.

You need either the Bespoke or Entune module for that to work

for those that are interested, there is a touch screen unit for sale in Long Beach Cal the guy is asking $350, one in Anaheim for $300 and an 1819 unit in Palm Springs for $75, all great upgrades for the 4th Gen stock head units. Found them on Craigslist in LA and Orange County. Phil

I started this install yesterday, but unfortunately the head unit I received was defective (the CD player and amp did not work). While I am waiting on a new head unit to be shipped, here is what I found.

1) The "aha" entune module does fit in the radio space, but the brackets that come with our 4Runners do not have a pin-out in the proper area. I suspect that zip ties or adhesive would work.
2) I put the gps antenna behind the radio in the dashboard area, and it seemed to pick up a signal just fine.
3) The steering wheel controls worked great.

Issues:
For some reason I could not hear the radio through my speakers, although it did tune HD radio stations. Do you think this is related to the CD player not working? I don't think I need an adaptor for the speaker output - that seemed to be plug and play with my harness.

The Metra antenna adaptor I ordered from crutchfield did not seem to be the correct one as we have 2 antennas, but the order shipped with one adaptor and one loose wire:

Is this the correct adaptor? What do I do with the loose wire from the adaptor? How does it interface with the other antenna connector?

does anyone know if you can stream or by hard wire throught the usb adapter, show video from your iphone or other storage device? I am getting ready to install the unit, not sure what all to expect, looks great, will have bluetooth phone and music streaming and nav is you purchase the separate bespoke module. thanks phil

The thing I noticed was that the "USB" connector from Toyota did not allow me to just plug in another USB cable I had at the house. It seemed like it needed to be modified (Cut off) in order to accept normal USB cables. Does anyone know if it needs to be modified, or if there is another adaptor to allow normal USB cables to be used?

I bought the Bluetooth microphone from my dealership (PT546-74120-MC) but I am confused as to where I plug this harness into? I thought that it plugged directly in to the Bespoke head unit however this does not seem to be the case. The wiring harness/connector on the other end of the mic is small 8 pin connector

USB not working

Thanks for the answers about the BT mic connection I quickly found that out once I received the 28 pin to 20 + 8 pin harness. Everything is working for me now except for the USB. I just got the USB adapter and a USB male A to A cable. I also purchased a USB/AUX jack from a Toyota Tacoma. I have modified that USB cable so it can plug into the adapter but for some reason the head unit does not recognize USB when I have a flash drive or iPod plugged in. Anyone have an idea why? When I go to sources the USB function is grayed out. Does anyone know if the USB should be grayed out when you don't have a USB device plugged in? In other word should the USB button on the head unit be clickable as long as I have the USB adapter or does a USB device need to be plugged in?

[MENTION=88984]TheQuisto[/MENTION] I am not sure of the part number for the cord that would fit into the USB adapter however with some modification to USB male A cable you can get it to work. I found theses links to be helpful this one, this one, and especially this one. The last link is the one that worked for me. Take a look at page 2 of the last link above and the post by SanDiego92155. Hope this helps

ok, I have located a FRS head unit for $100 shipped. Seems like a decent price.
EDIT: just realized this is NOT a touch screen. wonder if it still worth the price. better than T1806 T1808, T1809??

I read through the posts, but does anyone know of any issues with me installing this in my 2003 Limited? Sounds like a few parts and I should be in busy. I bought it with a kenwood headunit and I think this would be a better unit all the way around.

any thoughts??
