That's true in my case also. My problem is the audio I hear through the radio speakers is very distorted and garbled...

That's interesting, perhaps try another phone to isolate the issue?

I'm getting a bit tired of my single-din alpine HU and it's bad call quality and general BT issues. Aftermarket touchscreen HU have UIs that look silly to me. I like the simple look of the scion.

EDIT: Went through the thread, but not a lot of prices shown for harnesses and adapters.

Does anyone have this setup? And how much did you end up paying total?

I have decided to pull the trigger and I just ordered a T10015 PT54600140 from a '13 FRS. I also ordered all the harnesses from Amazon.

Install went great. Decided to pass on the Nav.. unfortunately, the cost of that upgrade is more than double of an aftermarket HU.

On a side note. I thought the JBL Synthesis system sounded pretty damn good.... but the difference with this Scion HU is not even compatible. It is a much better sound quality.

How did you deal with the sound fading from front to back or maybe you didn't experience that issue? In my case, I purchased a Line Output Converter (LOC) from Metra in order mitigate that issue.

Now if I could only figure out this wiring for the Illumination of the back lighting on the buttons. I called Metra and asked what they thought. They had no clue. Said its wire to wire matching. I started a thread about what wires I need to use. I need to find out what pins are used for it on the back of the FRS radio. Looks like green and green/white are what is used in the factory harness.

Did you ever get this figured out? I did the T10015 install a few weeks ago. Everything works greats, except there's no backlighting when the parking lights or headlights are on.

I did figure it out. If you go back in the thread there is a wrote up on it. Hard to find on my phone right now. But a positive jumper wire from the ILL circuit needs to be added into the back of the FRS radio. I can't remember which PIN it is. I'll

Can you please explain this issue further? Are you talking about automatic fading or a problem with the fade now being equal. I just noticed I have much more so d output up front rather than rear

It's a known complaint that while you're listening to the Scion radio, the sound sort of drifts from the front to the back than to the front. Some part of a song sounds louder than other for no apparent reason.

According to the METRA tech guy, the PAC TATO is having a hard time putting out a constant signal when the radio is putting out varying voltage signals. A LOC usually fixes this by the user manually adjusting the output from each of the four audio channel to the same voltage. Most LOC black box has the means of adjusting their output using a screwdriver or similar. Once I installed the LOC, adjusted the output to be the same out of all four channels, the weird automatic fading issue disappeared.

He also told me that most aftermarket stereos have a 4 vac (volts a/c) out of their pre-amp channels vs the Scion which only puts out 2 vac. Most aftermarket gizmos like to work with 4 vac pre-amp output I guess. Just a FYI.

Well, I can now report that I am experiencing this issue. I wasn't when I first installed it and for about a week after. Now, it happens about every 30 seconds. I'll have to look into a Metra LOC. Although honestly, not sure where i'm going to put it.... lol very little room back there now with the converter I already have and all the extra connectors. Quite possibly thinking of just buying an aftermarket stereo now. Especially since I have all the connectors for the steering wheel and amp hook up.
Depends on how much this LOC costs and the pain it might be.

For what it's worth...I mounted the LCi7 LOC in the upper compartment of the glove box.

If I can open it up without damaging it, I'll see what I can do. I will need it for the aftermarket HU if I decide to go that way. But I agree, it could be a nice job for a re-engineered setup. I'm going to try and turn down the TATO unit to see if that has any change on the problem. currently, I have it up all the way but I really don't think that is needed.

The fading issue is a annoyance for sure. I've talked with Metra several times. They say there is no issue. They don't really seem to care much about the issue. Sounds common among Lexus owners also with aftermarket setups. Not just a Scion radio concern it seems. I'm on my 3rd TATO module so far. This last one is better but still fades all the time. No range of adjustment fixes the problem. Love the FRS radio but hate the fading issue. I'd go aftermarket but I have so little into this setup. A similar aftermarket would be $600+ easy...

LOC units are cheap on the net and mine is sitting behind the push out tray thing. It's a tight fit with all that wire.

Just hooked it all up, sounds awesome, works great, too bad there isn't a way to change the scion splash screen though but overall very happy with the outcome, thanks fellas!

Does anyone know if you can hook up an ipad or similar device to the USB to use as an ipod? I am wondering if I can play a movie and hear it through the speakers.

If the USB won't work for ipads, my next question is which pin on the extension plug is for wiring the AUX in?

EDIT: To clarify, this is for my kids to watch in the backseat.
