Barry White Build Thread

Speaking of abandoning this thread.... I did.

I've been out wheeling A LOT and really enjoying myself. I can add pics if anyone cares.

I'm trying to remember all the garbage I've added.

LED under hood light, LED rear hatch light, both operate on a mercury switch. No pics at the moment

And..... Um...

Oh yeah, I added a fire extinguisher.

And I JUST ordered 4xInnovations sliders on their holiday special.
As well as a full complement of skids from RCI.

Very very excited about getting that stuff on. Thanks to my wife for the "Christmas gift"

Hey everyone who isn't reading my build thread.

awkward_ron_wave.gif

I got my RCI skid plates in. Very happy with the quality and customer service.

I've spent a ridiculous amount of time researching the best way to paint/ coat them. While POR15 might be the "Best of the best with honors" it was too expensive and time consuming.

I've opted for the "sand, self etching primer, Rustoleum Professional paint" route. The mill scale on the parts make it an absolute beeotch to sand.
Anyhow, I started priming the side that faces up. This is area is of the most concern to me because if it rusts, I won't know until I pull the parts off. So it will get the most protection.

The weather should be in the mid 60's today so i'm going to try and get everything primed and painted.

Also, I got some discontinued Slee Offroad Highlift Jack mounts from another member in brand new condition. I drilled holes in the bolts so the jack can't be stolen.
Unfortunately I didn't do enough research on the Yakima mighty mounts and bought two sets of the 1v from ebay, just to find out yesterday they don't fit on the 4th gen rails. I picked up a set of the 10v and hopefully i'll have them before Christmas, but i'm not holding my breath.

For Christmas i'm getting an assortment of recovery gear. 60" High Lift Jack, Snatch Strap, High lift accessory kit, and a receiver hitch D-ring hooptie. Also a ARB tire Deflator,

Im not good with electricity, I tried the under the hood lighting and my mercury switch got too hot and sort of disappeared. I followed the DIY so I'm not sure of what I did wrong so I gave up..... flashlights work too. :pout:

Good thing you have a fire extinguisher!

Sounds like you might have connected power to one side of the mercury switch and ground to the other side?

This seems overly simplistic, but maybe it'll help?

Well the temps were up yesterday... nearly 65*
If the wind hadn't been blowing at 15mph that would have been grrrreaaaat.

The wind would lay down for a second... i'd try to paint some and then....

And I was like...

But I fought the good fight... got them all painted before the rain and 45* weather today... #Texasweatheryall

The attachment shows the second to last coat. The final coat isn't quite so tiger striped...

Taylor Swift undies... you're welcome.

Got my RCI skids in, sanded them with 80 grit, to cut through the mill scale, then hit with a self etch primer and some Rustoleum Professional paint.

Very Very impressed with the quality and ease of installation on these.

Pics below of the process and the difference in thickness from stock to the 3/16" thick skids.

Took it to the offroad park. Drove through a small pond/ large puddle. Scratched up my skids (no pics, its still dirty)

A almost new Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk thought it could do the same thing... I had to pull it out. Hilarious. Muffler was full of water... it was gushing out.

Got my 4x sliders in. I'm thinking I need stiffer rear springs soon. Between the sliders and the skids i'll have tacked on about 400lbs to my truck.
Might hold out and get the Metal Tech Long travel system.

Actually that Cherokee way in the background made it across without much issue. That's another guys stock 4R 4wd (that also made it across. BARELY) Only problem was his intake got wet so he was changing air filters.

Yeah, skids were my Christmas gift, and I bought sliders too. Waiting to get them welded on.

How do you feel about the power with your v8? did you look at any others before you bought yours? and awesome build so far!

I LOVE my V8. I miss the acceleration it had when it was stock. That thing would $hit and get at WOT.

Wheels/tires, skids, etc are killing the performance. I wonder how the v6 guys who are armored out do it.

Yeah it's great IMO, gas mileage sucks but my wife has a v6 4R that we use for long trips. It's fine too TBH, but I'm a hotrod guy, I like having that extra power.

Very exciting update... finally got the 4xInnovation sliders on! Had a good buddy help me get them installed and he did a fantastic job. I managed to get all the legs cut to the correct length and angle before I went to his place.
They are 3/16" wall square tube with .180 wall DOM round tube.

Also upgraded my aux back up lights to Kwell 42W square LED units.

I plan on adding a "anytime" switch to those.
I cut the bubbles out of the rear bumper to help them fit. I plan on building my own bumper eventually so i'm not concerned about hacking it up a little.

I added some brackets for a pseudo "rock lights/ courtesy lights/ Puddle lights" on the slider. Haven't installed them yet but all I lack is the wiring.
Pics coming soon.

Took it to the park to 'test out' the sliders. Managed to bounce my truck off a rock and into a tree. Busted the drivers tail light a lot, busted the passenger a little. And I bent my hatch a little.
I have an idea for "tree proof" tail lights but I don't know if I have the time to build them.

Going to have to re-do the Y pipe that goes underneath transfer case. The skid plate is bending up into it which is causing some unpleasant vibrations.

And some random trail rash i've accumulated.

Just trim the front bumper like I did to mine. I had the same issue going on, so much better approach angles now! :D
I've also been thinking of trimming my rear bumper cover in the same way....

I enjoy your build threads, here and the x. Some of the off-road park pics you shared look like hidden falls.
