Need a new engine fan bracket bearing, bearing or whole bracket?

Thank baby jesus it wasn't the water pump! I've been hearing a slight grinding for a few days now and had my money bet on another alt, but using a piece of 3/8 brake line as a stethoscope I listened to all bolts and brackets and the noise was definitely coming from the metal center timing belt cover "fan bracket" as he hanes manual calls it. I was scared it was the water pump behind it so proceeded to remove accessory belts and started it back up and to my surprise it was gone! Yay not he water pump but the bearing in the fan bracket is shot.

Easiest way to remove? Will the entire bracket need to be replaced or can a new bearing be pressed in? I'd love to have it done by the weekend so I can go wheeling. Not gonna drive with the bearing as bad as it is and risk throwing the fanthrough the rad.

Found plenty of results but no one in local area has one, all spec order. Pn 45784, all main parts stores sell for $140-150 eBay is $70 free shipping. Looks like I'm missing out this weekend. Will I have to fully remove upper timing cover or loosen and slide the bracket out from behind?

Ok thought I'd give an update on my "Fan bearing bracket". I removed it and want to save anyone else that has to do this the trouble I had to go through.

1st drain coolant

2nd with belts still on, loosen the (4) fan nuts.

3rd remove belts

4th remove fan shroud and fan

5th you can remove the upper radiator hose and upper timing belt cover

Now you can actually see the bearing bracket

6th remove (2) bolts and (2) nuts from bracket

7th and last the p/s tensioner will have to come off with, so remove that nut and entire bracket and tensioner will pull right out

Install will be reverse of removal, site Toyota torque specs


Just thought I'd save some one the a$$ pain I went through

I might have to change mine real soon too, My mechanic friend told me it had a slight whirring/grinding when he changed all belts and that I have to change it before it causes any damage..Is PN 45784 a Toyota OEM part number? wanna get original parts as much as possible.

I get 16307-62011 as the Toyota part number for the 3.4L V6., but that includes the pulleys and clutch. I can't find a number for just the bracket. Sorry.

Yeah I'm looking at spending over $1000 for the bracket, coupling and pulley fans and there's nothing wrong with mine. they must sell that bearing separate from the bracket assembly. I'll try the wreck yard.

Rockauto has the Aisin OE piece for $135.99. That's sure to be the same as what Toyota WON'T sell you, except as part of the whole package. AISIN makes the OE fan clutch, too.

Go Here and then search for 1630762011. Or, if you Google that number, you can find other sources even cheaper for just the bracket, including FleaBay. The AISIN part No. is FBT004; you can Google that and find it for $105. I don't think the bearing itself is a listed replaceable part anywhere, but a good machine shop might be able to press in a generic SKF, Timken or something. I'd probably just buy the AISIN bracket and know I'm good for another ten years. Junkyard pieces are gonna have ten years and at least 100K on them.

I can't see any other part number for any V6 from 11/95-'02 or any other listing that says that piece won't fit a '97. Gotta believe it fits. I have never used that supplier. You could try calling them and see what they say.

I did this yesterday, very easy to do. I took pictures of the new part from RockAtuo (FBT004) and the old one.. likes like the same thing to me.

Sadly, this was not my noise I was hearing.. so if anyone wants buy my old one...

My noise must be the waterpump, it's right behind it apparently. That's next.

Did you run the engine without the accessories yet? That A/C compressor is pretty loud on it's last leg! If it's not one of those easy fixes and you go to do a timing belt, please do a nice writeup on it with pics n all. Mine's gotta be done soon.

Yes, I took all the belts off and the noise was loudest from that fan bearing location (using long screwdriver). I really thought it was the fan bearing, oh well.. I guess it could be the water pump or one of those pulleys behind the inspection cover.. Heaven forbid I change the timing belt, waterpump and still have the noise. gr.
