Driving from WA to SoCal.. sugg anywhere to stop?

So at the end of my month my bro is getting out of the navy and he happens to decomission at the base up here in washington. Were surprising our family and driving home on the 29. Were expecting to get to OC on the 2nd. I was wondering if anyone knows where we should stop along the way. I have an uncle in Santa Cruz so we are spending the night up there. But I was thinking San Francisco, my wife loves that place. Gimme some suggestions I dont want to go to far outta the way as we are kind of on a some what tight schedule.

Santa Cruz is a great place to stop. Who is your uncle? There may be slight chance I know who he is. I'd definitely go up to San Fran. You could head out to Hollister Hills and do some 4wheeling while in Santa Cruz.

The name sounds familiar, but I'm sure my brother knows him. My brother worked at the Santa Cruz Harbor and would kayak around there. Some more suggestions are Santa Barbara is really nice and if your wife is with you, she would love the downtown. San Luis Obispo is really nice for lunch and Pismo would be fun to head out to the dunes. You would have to drive up the 101 to see those two places.

Hwy 1 down the coast is a beautiful and worthwhile drive between Carmel and LA.

If you stop in Frisco and then take the 580 to the 5 South stop in Santa Nella at Pea Soup Andersons. If you head down 101 to Santa Barbara there is one just north of there in Buelltown. The 1 freeway all the way down will have some cool sites so I'm sure it will be an awesome trip.
