Fuse Box High Contact

I feel pretty dumb about this, but I opened up my hood to jump my Subaru today (battery is bad) and I noticed something peculiar around the fuse box:

Note the blue circles on the image above. This lead to the fuse box is completely disconnected - I'm perplexed because the car SEEMS to run just fine, though it threw a couple of engine codes a week ago (with no notable change in performance). The connector is strange, as both of the metal contacts are a sort of round tongue shape, and they don't make contact when I fasten the plastic connector - Is this by design?? I'm assuming these should definitely be touching eachother?

They lead to something aftermarket. That is for sure. Do you have some Aux lights or anything?

I would get those check engine lights figured out quick though..

That is NOT the lead TO the fuse box. That appears to be a user-added tap OFF the lead to the fuse box going to an in-line fuse holder that has been opened and left disconnected, perhaps for good reason. (PO pulled his expensive aux lights or stereo amp before he sold it--or something like that, maybe.) You need to figure what it goes TO, if anything. It will be aftermarket, whatever it is. Leaving it disconnected will not affect the truck itself, as built. You are missing the fuse that goes in the holder, that's why you can't figure out how it goes together.

But I don't recommend connecting it up until you know what it does, if anything. If there is nothing that doesn't work, then whatever it connected to is probably no longer there.

Nice, thanks guys. I appreciate the quick help.

I'll be taking it into the shop for LBJs pretty soon here (looks like originals on it right now at 230k), so I'll have them check out the code then. Looks like an IAT code, P0110, and something else intermittent. Since the code showed up I put in an Injen intake and a brand new MAF sensor, had the codes cleared, and it popped up again a day later :/ Hoping I don't need a new ECU..
