i think what is more important now is that we figure out exactly what a TYTO or TATO harness does. what is inside that black box?! it is just adapter ends. maybe a level line converter? is that all that thing is? not so good with electronics, but im having a hard time believing that little box does some magical stuff, but rather just allows A to be plugged into B.
cant be that hard to make a conversion harness.

Good question, I don't know exactly what it does. All I know is that it somehow bypasses the JBL Amp. I think you (can't remember who exactly) mentioned that this product doesn't work on our rigs. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Looks as though the JBL touchscreen is very rare as opposed to the nonJBL (which apparently is widely available). EVEN if it's JBL, is it plug n play? No one knows. Jury is still out. For me, the goal would be to have this HU (nonJBL b/c no info on the JBL unit) AND have ENTUNE and NAV enabled, but to have all this, looks like it will cost close to $1K which I think is way too much. If I find a deal online ($500 is manageable), then I might splurge, but even then, I may or maynot have to gut the AMP and manually wire everything, that would suck big time.

we actually have to keep the JBL amp, rather than bypass it. that amp is what powers all 10 speakers. if we bypass it, we would have to run a separate amp and we would loose the cargo area and center channel right off the bat.
really, we have to figure out how to get the proper speaker signal from the scion unit to the amp, thats really all. the more i read, seems like the scions might use a separate amp as well, rather than the HU feeding the speakers directly. from my limited electronics knowledge, this would be a good thing as i would think the signal would be the same level/voltage as the JBL level/voltage. I think this is why a pot is used in the TYTO, the signal level/voltage.

[MENTION=50507]CookieRoe[/MENTION] if you were just looking to bypass the JBL amp then you can use this Metra 70-8117 and wire it directly to the corresponding pins on the Scion headunit (using a reverse wire harness) since the FRS headunit has an internal amp. The only problem there is that (like yosh2000 said) you will automatically lose the functionality of the subwoofer, center dash speaker, and rear pillar speakers in the cargo area since the FRS headunit only has pins for FL, FR, RL, RR.
The TYTO-01, Schoche, PAC TATO are (I think) amp turn-on/interfaces which convert the RCA pre outs to work with the JBL amp/10-speaker setup.
I ended up using the 70-8116 harness when I decided to ditch the JBL amp so I didn't have to run new wires to each speaker.

Great info, thanks man! If I loose the woofer/centerchannel (it's not currently hooked up to anything)/small front door speakers, I honestly don't mind. I'm not an audiophile. If I wanted the FRS HU to sound really good, I'll head to a shop and get hooked up with an amp, etc........ until then, I'll sit patiently until a good deal pops up. then I'll "jump in the pool"...............

[MENTION=50507]CookieRoe[/MENTION] appears the egay guy added the nav setup back to the 2013 highlander unit and raise the price to $800. might be able to offer 600-650 and pick up the touchscreen jbl unit with NAV. just wanted to throw this out just in case.

I can't remember now (coffee hasn't kicked in yet), but is the ENTUNE something you can add on later or does it come with the NAV? Scion's version of ENTUNE is BESPOKE which everyone seems to hate (I want to avoid it). Again, I know this particular unit on eGuey is for the Highlander (strange unit as I thought this and last generations were different............ weird option).

Today I installed the right side Bluetooth/Voice Command steering wheel controls (PT 84244-35030-B1) and everything works perfectly with my 2013 Pioneer Bespoke touch screen headunit. I am sure it would work with the 2014 model as well. Just thought I'd post this info here incase anyone was considering adding them. For anyone interested in doing this install, check out this thread.

What specifically is required to add the backup camera to the touchscreen unit? (PT546-00140) Is there a factory camera part number? Thanks!
Beatsonic makes a back up camera harness for this unit that is plug an play. As for the camera I dunno what cameras are used on the FRS from the factyor but I think most back up cameras would work. This is on my to do list so keep me update if you do add one.

In case anyone is interested, the PT546-0140 is a no go with satellite radio, unless I have missed something. Hooked up the iSimple gateway, no go. Works with the T1819. Haven't figured out a way to select the SAT mode on the touchscreen and can't tell if it's even possible. Any help is appreciated.

I put this PT546-0140 in last week. Huge upgrade from my stock HU!
As for adding the USB, can I add AUX input as well or will it only accept a USB input? This is what I was thinking of picking up:

I think I'll "officially" step aside on this one. The more I see the Pioneer AVIC NX8000+ series, the more I can't stop drooling..............

one thing to note, he did NOT use the JBL amp with the scion unit, he completely bypassed it.
I wanted to make sure that was clear as i was searching for months to figure out how to make a 2014 scion unit work with my 05 JBL truck and make use of the jbl amp. finally just settled on a e7009!!
I just ordered the LC7i LOC by AudioControl and am planning on replacing the 2013 FRS Pioneer touchscreen with the 2014 model. I am still going to use the aftermarket 5 ch amp I installed but I suppose you could use an LOC (LC7i or a more basic LOC) along with the Metra or Schoshe adapter and make it work with JBL system.

So after receiving some of the cables in the mail, I've had a chance to look at the USB cable. I know that Buckles said that the USB cable needs to be "modified" to plug something into it.
Looking on Ebay, I found this cable;
Obviously needs no modification, and is only a fraction of the $65.00(!!!) Scion cable, at $14.00~.
If this works, I'll return the Scion cable to Amazon, and post the details on the new cable.
