What all are you guys doing to prevent the rockers from rusting?

Funny you mention the garden/chemical sprayer as I was thinking that might be my preferred method of application regardless of using WD-40 or Fluid Film.
I have a compressor and 4 post lift but i think it might be way cleaner to use a garden sprayer with less pressure.
I’ll be doing this inside my garage where I have a dedicated woodworking area as well as other vehicles and thought of a light coat or mist of WD-40/FF traveling through the air is not very appealing.
I don’t really see a downside in going the route you did as coverage should not be reduced.
Anybody disagree?

Anyone thats doing it effectively is spraying the INSIDE of their rockers thru the drain holes with some liquid of choice every year. I use WD-40.

I used to do it way . :] however my gun is low pressure volume. The film dosent atomize too much at all. Nothing wrong with doing it that way. I just got used to using my gun for applications. :]

I pulled the tar covers off on the inner rocker and replaced those all with rubber body plugs and spray [ my rust prevention liquid of choice] in that way. :]
Being all my rigs PO neglected the body panels and frame. I have to replace most of my outer in inner rocker metals on my rides. In that process now with Tetanus 1.

Nice tip on those little square covers, I never really noticed them. I always wondered how they would have painted the inside of the rockers, I guess thats how. I pushed on them and they feel bouncy like there's a round hole under them. So where did you buy those body plugs for exact fit? Access plugs are easier than jamming a spray tube up thru the drain holes. If I do the body plugs, I can just do a quick blast with the spray gun.

i just stumbled across this thread, but y'all - POR 15 is awful. - count on not doing any weld repairs or modifications in the future; that stuff is really difficult to remove.
(and we all know these trucks like to be modded...)
POR 15 edges out DynaMat for the worst thing you can do to a vehicle, long term, IMO.

Hmm.. I removed some off my Frame with an angle grinder. I never did try to weld through it. However, challenge accepted.. Next time I use KB seal or POR-15 something. I will see how it welds through. I can tell you one thing for sure. Both those products are worthless on a mower deck.. Can not take the sandblasting of the mowing action. Will not even last a season. ;-)

You don't even need to do that. Rockers are accessible to spray from the screw holes in the door jamb. You don't even need to pop off the plastic trim.

Yeah the kick plate screws are another option. So yeah we have 3 access options. I'm liking the plug hole on the backside idea though cause I can give it a quick 3 second high pressure blast with spray gun while I'm doing the rest of the rig. I think I will only need to one plug per rocker cause of the spray I have at 80 psi. It will fog out the whole interior of the rocker. Any of us doing any of these ways will not be complaining about the rockers rotting out.

That will work. I like to pretend I am a kid and use my fluid gun as a super soaker. Hit all the holes in the back of the inner rocker. Yes you can acess the top of the rocker and spray down through if you wish. Having to remove a couple screws to do that but that is the 2nd option.

Use it its a good product. I have one done completely in POR-15 / KB Seal.
If you in the rust belt, its better then not having any frame left.

There is nothing wrong with either POR-15 or KB Seal if your rig lives in the rust belt. As I would rather see folks have frames left then not. If its done properly adheres to the steel quite well. I am sure I can get it off any area if I had to weld if need be or even burn through it to do repairs.
Granted other environments, like the south and west rust isn't a major issue.
one would not have to be super concerned steel rot issues.
Everyone can do as they wish as its their Rigs. As well is everyone has entitled to their opinion on any subject matter.

I might pick up this half-gallon mini sprayer from Harbor Freight, at $4.99 what's there to lose. I bought WD in gallon containers so I'll need a small sprayer. 0.5 gallon Home and Garden Sprayer. They also have larger (with wand) sprayers for $13.99 (1.25 gal) and $14.99 (2 gal)
